Weather is bright today but not sunny yet. Am aiming to hit the garden if possible, if only to cheer on my happy (?) fence painting workers! :rotfl: Dinner tonight will be left over beef from yesterday with more home grown broccolli and some cheap cabbage we picked up.
I was very excited yesterday as I checked my shallots out. I only had 8 so stuck them in two troughs and just left them to get on with things.. yesterday I took my first look and each one appears to have 4 or 5 babies just peeking above the soil. All pretty good shallot size too! They were a really easy crop, I shall grow more next year.
My hard-topped garlic isn't ready for pulling but pulled the last few soft top and they are hanging and drying out. I did notice that though nothing appears to be eating the thick garlic stems, there were several tiny baby snails snuggled inside a leaf joint - about one per plant, so they all got squished!!
My usual home-help is on holiday this week so I will end up having three different people which will be interesting. Means I have to pay more attention as of course they won't know the routine!
I hope you are all having a gentle start to your week. Warm

I always worry when you're not about so I'm glad you posted today.:T
hope you manage to cure the dog of the biting - not sure what to suggest as we've never had this problem but the chewy toys sound a good idea.
Am off to the docs later for the dreaded smear test - a 6 month repeat for me again plus need to mention a few other niggles while I'm there. Luckily she is a great doc and very understanding - when I had my coil put it she gave me a kitkat and a glass of juice afterwards:D(all that was missing was a sticker for being brave:D)
anyway off for lunch
take care xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
Been missing in action yet again - work!!! Did a 12 hour day instead of 8 hours yesterday, was not very impressed. However, I am now off until September, woo hoo!!!

DS and DD come back today after 10 days away with their Dad. They'll probably be driving me crazy by the end of the week, but can't wait to see them, have missed them like mad.
Usual chores to do today having been at work the last 5 days and not doing anything!!
PP - sorry to hear you're not doing so well.0 -

Afternoon All
Thank you for your kind words for my doggie. He is certainly brighter this morning and his waters seems to be clearing up. He's off to the vet later for an x-ray and blood test, so we can rule out the dreaded c-word.
At work at the moment, but they're very relaxed here, so they don't mind people taking a moment to themselves online. Must really find out if business mileage is just the journey to work or to work and home again, I'm guessing the first one!
Dinner tonight will be something to do with chicken and I'm currently eating my fruit bowl that I take to work.
Hope everyone's okComping, Clicking & Saving for Change0 -
Afternoon all!
Spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening washing and ironing and cleaning - very virtuous! Was a relief to plonk down and eat our roast dinner - rather overcooked, as forgot was 2 children down, and oh doesn't eat as much as I always think he will! Prob been picking at work though!
Did yet more washing this morning and it's drying on the line now, got the airer up in the kitchen as it started to rain yesterday evening, I've taken to sticking small things like socks and little clothes on the airer and putting it outside, much much quicker to haul in if rain appears quickly! Bonus of yesterday's mainly sunny weather was I got all the sleeping bags and bedding dried outside, plus dressing gowns, all of which take an age to dry indoors!
Today I've pottered about and S&S the kitchen, need to wipe over my bathroom floor and prob stick some more washing in in a bit, dd1 is meant to be sorting out her clothes, so I'm waiting .........
Popped into town to get dd3 some clay, ELC here don't stock it any more, luckily remembered there's an art shop tucked away so went there, lovely lady gave dd3 some leaflets with ideas for things to make, so she's been extra quiet since we got home, and we now have an alien, a ladybird and several other small creatures drying! dd1 picked up some art stuff and has vanished to her room to create something, prob more mess, bless her! Anything to put of the horrible clothes sorting! She's quite pleased as she stayed at a friend's house last night and was offered loads of stuff that her mate had grown out of, so has piles of stuff that's never been worn - who are these kids who don't wear new clothes?! ds has claimed the sitting room with his xbox and msn - who says boys can't multitask!
Whilst in town I went into The Works, cheapy bookshop, and picked up the Gill Holcombe book, Family Meals - Food on a budget and olive's 101 seasonal treats, all for the grand total of £6.47! Rather please and enjoying reading the budgeting stuff - nothing new but nice to browse and gain a bit more inspiration anyway!
So this afternoon is a quiet one, books for me and kids doing their own things. Lunch was sarnies, or leftover curry. Dinner will be pasta with a cheese and bacon sauce and salad and hm bread.
Back to work tonight after a week off, so no doubt will be v tired and grumpy tomorrow, think oh is helping a friend move, hoping he hasn't volunteered my services, I shall just deliver my car and then skedaddle!
Oh, and thanks for the birthday wishes for dd2, she was having a great day when I spoke to her, cards and pressies galore from people she's met out there and friends of her friend's family! She was off to the beach for a bbq in her honour and to practice her diving off the jetty! Sigh, oh to be 12 years old!
Have a good day all xxGC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Must really find out if business mileage is just the journey to work or to work and home again, I'm guessing the first one!
In our place (local government) business mileage is any mileage incurred whilst working for the organisation i.e. travelling to a meeting, travelling to a conference, driving between sites etc, but NOT travelling to or from work. However, if you have a company car, then the interpretation may be different to claim any mileage costs.0 -
My dad claims petrol costs for his journey TO work but not from so would assume that mileage would work the same way.
Scuzz - glad to hear your pooch is a little brighter. Hope the blood test gives the all clear xI have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife
