Oh I forgot to mention that Orange lets you buy 500Mb (I think) for £5 to add it on top of your normal package.

Do you can get Nokia 5800 for free on 18mth package with Dolphin 35 (pay monthly £30) - 600 mint and unlim texts - and add mobile internet (but you get first 2 months for free) for example...

Unfortunately not lower mins or texts and therefore price...

High monthly contract comes with expensive phones I think..:-((

By the way the Iphone is on only with O2 (currently anyhow) and to get it for free you just need to sign up for 24 mths, £35 a month and you get unlimited internet.

Thanks. I have seen O2 website and shop.

I was even considering that, as I mainly need the Internet and calling abroad, I could even go for a a solution Pay & Go with "Your Country" sim card which has: 1) a 12 months free web data & WIFI hot spots 2) if topping up 10 GBP/month, you get 50 mins free calls abroad + 10p each text also abroad.

iPhone is 348 GBP (3G) or 440 GB (3GS) which is far less of what I would spend with a monthly subscription for 18 or 24 months. It might become convenient for me, as I make very few UK calls/texts.

However, The website do not say if web data can be "tethered". If tethering is not possible, then the monthly subscription (whether tethering seems to be possible instead) comes into the picture again as i use a dongle at the moment with my laptop.

Sorry, I didn't want to lecture you, all I was pointing out that there isn't much choice if you want such a phone for free.

That is very good idea. Is this from O2? I might look at it as well.
If you are calling abroad so much I think that might be the best course of action. Sounds very good.

Yes, there must also be an International caller "bolt on" as they call it where you pay 5 GBP once and get very cheap calls abroad. This is for Pay & Go type of deals. For monthly there are others.

Do you know of a comparison site which shows if mobile Internet is included in the deal or not? In the standard comparison sites, this is even not included in the details...

I did my own calculations of the network offerings, and provided you have good 3UK coverage, their cost per Gb was cheapest of all the networks, but you need to verify their coverage suits you.

Do also remember that deals change - even mid contract - so I use their PAYG BB and am happy with it.
