Hi Everyone!
I am not usually one for the latest Gizmo's and trends etc, but the IPhone is really appealing to me, especially the internet feature and the access to International Media (for example free access to, New York Journal, Washington Post and USA today which generally cost a fortune when purchased in print) free language learning programs as I learn languages, and other features, such as email and constant easy access to the WWW as a whole. Also, even though this can be done with standard handsets - the Iphone can be used as a diary from where I can set reminders etc. I also believe that I can get an App compatible to Microsoft word and hense can edit world documents on it. The Iphone looks like I could have access to all these features that is the 'holy grail' for my lifestyle, including features like Google Maps/earth and local transit facilities of major world cities. I am also a news freak and want access to CNN, BBC and some other North American media. I travel a lot and it looks like the Iphone is a god send. But is it really? I am also considering the Blackberry Bold, put I like the screen on the Iphone, cuz I watch the occasional music video. I am thinking that if I get the Iphone, I would have easier access to Video and will be using that feature a lot (esp. when I can watch news videos off CNN without having to be at home!) Which should I choose, according to the stuff I would use it for?
Thanks!

There are other phones with internet access and can use office type programs and Google maps. One thing that is said of the iPhone is that it doesn't run applications in the background, and only one at a time
But the main reason I'm posting here is I'm wondering if some of your travel is abroad, in which case beware of using an iPhone, or indeed any for internet use. Data costs while roaming are high, and from what I read some people have found it tricky to fully disable all the iPhone's data access0 -
Redux - thanks for your reply. I will be using the iphone overseas mainly to access the google maps and the transit apps, like metro directions in New York, for example. I guess the way around the high data charges would be to download maps to the phone before leaving the UK and then accessing them once in the country. This is if i manage to disable data access, as you have said people have had problems doing. Also in EU I heard that there are new roaming tariffs for travel within Europe? I havent looked into that, though and might just be for voice calls. Thanks! There are other phones with internet access and can use office type programs and Google maps
