Its an urban myth that all DLA claimants are turned down at there first attempt, I have had two people awarded what they deserved this year so far without any problems at all, 2 out of 2.

A lot of the negative web posts about DLA are from people who didnt have a clue and messed up the forms and people who think everyones disabled today and that they deserve DLA because they have a sprained ankle or need glasses.

Yes, I was awarded DLA first time, without the need to appeal. I was also awarded an increase when I submitted a change of circumstance, first time too.

On both occassions, I completed the forms myself, without any outside help, so I don't buy the theory that people are always turned down on first claim either, or that they are turned down if they fill the forms in themselves.

I was awarded DLA the first time I applied, and filled in the forms myself as well. If you're the one filling them in, you know yourself better than anyone else does, and how you react to daily life better than anyone else, as you may hide it around others so you don't think they have to feel sorry for you.

I got HRC and LRM first time too and also applied on my own.
  • If a claim gets turned down, but circumstances change, is it worth informing them, especially whilst the claim is in the process of being looked at again?
