Charging for PAC codes

I am looking to change my network from Vodafone to T Mobile as their price plan suits me better. My contract is up in early June so I will be writing to cancel my contract in early May.

I have looked on the T Mobile website and it states that some providers may charge for the PAC code to transfer my number.

Is this correct?

Does anyone know how much this would be?

Can I transfer my number after I recieve my new phone and number. I have to order everything online and there is no option to enter a PAC code.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Vodafone don't charge for PAC codes. (Got one from them recently) PAC codes are valid for 30 days, so yes you can transfer your number to your new phone.

If you want to leave Vodafone and take your number to T-mobile, you don't ring up a month before your twelve month and cancel your contract with 30 days notice! Wait until the twelve months has elapsed and then ring up and request your PAC code, which when used by T-mobile (or any other operator) will automatically cancel your current contract.

Are you saying 30 days notice do not apply once the contract reached it course when requesting for a PAC?

You can request your PAC at the beginning of month 12 which then means you have 30 days to find a new deal - if you wait until after month 12 you will be paying for another month (or at least a proportion of it) as you pay in advance. You can either give 30 days notice, or request a PAC (not both) - using your PAC achieves the same thing as once given to the new network it effectively gives your existing network notice that you are leaving/cancels your contract.

My experience with Orange was that they only charged for a few days in month 13 (as I hadn't a deal lined up) and refunded the remainder of the month. Orange didn't charge (though only three months ago, this may change).

I went from Orange to O2 in May and Orange added £17 to the bill for the PAC code. I called them up and demanded that they remove it from my final bill as I was never told there would be a charge. If I had been told - fair enough - but I wasn't. They refunded it.
