What a fantastic crowd of people you all are. I'm so impressed. The Mayor of London is quite innovative and not someone I'd considered.
Wayforward - that reply is inspired. I think MEPs are often under-utilised and may not get the correspondence a local MP might, so it's entirely possible they will be grateful of a new challenge. Tell you what you could do - tell your MP (even if you've written to them already, perhaps leave it a week or two then send a follow-up note) that your MEP has sent a very positive response and you'd be interested what your MP has to make of this.
Ultimately though we are right to be angry about this issue. Bankrupts serve their time, so stop the criminalisation after so long. My ideal time as I've already said is six years, then no organisation should be able to consider taking a former bankruptcy into account for anything.
Remember why we're all doing this. The insurers don't trust bankrupts enough to use this as another excuse to whack up your premium. Your details will be held for life on a central government database. If you're arrested but not charged for a crime, this has been challenged and the police cannot now keep your DNA without your consent, as people are horrified at a pointless central register that amounts to 'just in case'.
What we're essentially campaiging for is to smash this unnecessary central register. I'm angry, and others should be equally.
Keep up the hard work, I'm dead proud of the work people are putting into this already.0 -
I wonder if it's worth getting in touch with high profile former BR's - Lord Archer, Peter Jones, Simon Cowell - they are all quite open about the fact the have been BR0

I briefly read this thread yesterday morning and thought that OP was excellent in what he said. Now I've come back for a check up and see how much further this has gone! When I get in from work later I, too, will be sending off these letters to everyone I can think as I totally agree with everyone so far.
As a recently discharged bankrupt myself, I find that I never want to be in the position I was before going BR, so will always try to be so careful with money, bills etc, but it won't be made any easier for us if we are having to pay a premium because of our misfortune pre BR.Christians Against Poverty - www.capuk.org0 -
