Was the amount an estimate from the water co ?

I would take 2 readings 1 week apart and multiply by 52 to get a rough estimate of your usage and check your bills are actuall readings and not estimates and also check for a leak if unsure how to do so then give me a shout

We pay £40 a month to Southern Water for just the two of us, and we're unmetered.

One of the prblems with SW is that they havefor unmetered props fixed anuual charges of £22 and £6 for surface water drainage and highway drainage. Moreover the minimum charge incl. the standing charge for wastewater disposal is £61.40. The combiantion works against the smaller property.

You said you are unmetered and from that I have assumed that your charges are based on the old rateable value system. Is that correct? If it is then even with the high fixed and mins of SW I am unable to reconcile what I have calculated as the RV of the property. I winder if the SW payments include arrears payments. May be full details of the bills and calculations could help.

Why do you pay to two water companies?
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

We have just moved in, and was told by Southern Water that we pay what we do each month because of the area we live in.

Who are you quoting? We only have one company for supply and waste.

Ariba. the answer's simple. In parts of Kent one company suppies water and the other deals with disposal. It's not an uncomon situation. used to live in OP's area and the same happens where I live now.:D
  • I'm on a water meter with South East water and pay on average £100 every 6 months! Have you asked the water company to check for a leak?
It's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission.
