look at a moblie comparison site to get an idea of the best deals for the phone you want i.e. onecompare and reestit-mutton. onecompare seems to have more choice, though think reestit was set up by someone here to help m4e users. Remember to double check all terms and conditions if you go for a cashback deal. :j

I've literally just bought a Nokia 8800 using onecompare.

The best deal for me was the Orange Canary package with 7 months half price line rental and a free refurb Nokia 8800 (They call it clearance but the description indicates it is a refurb). Works out at about £22 a month for 200 Xnetwork mimutes and 75 texts. There are some slightly cheaper deals, however, I am only tied into a 12 month contract.

Also don't forget to use quidco for a further £20 cash back.

    Hi.

You didn't mention if this is a new contract or a upgrade/transfer.

If it's an upgrade, you can ask them for the 8800. Most companies will want to keep your custom and will be good about doing this. I've already got 3 to list me for a Nokia N80 in August, and they're going to let me know about the N91. Even though I may not stay with them, it's good to know I have the option. I could always sell the phone and that would pay for the contract cost.

If it's a transfer, you can use some of the tips outlined in the articles in the Utilities/Mobile Phone section, about playing one company against another to get a good deal. You might want to tell one company that another has offered you the 8800 and see if they can give it to you. Companies will rarely cross-check, simply because there is quite a bit of flexibility with the sales reps able to offer discounts and extras on a 1-to-1 basis, and this makes cross-checking impractical.

If you're wanting to get a new contract, I'd say maybe go for one of the 12 month free on a 12 month contract deals, get the phone (good if it's a popular and high-end model), sell the model on eBay, and then buy yourself a cheap unlocked one. It'll also give you the advantage of being able to use it with other networks, which is great when you go abroad as you can use other services which eliminate roaming costs, and make calling back to the UK and within the country cheaper. You could even get a refurb or 'in good condition' one off ebay too.

Also, another thing you can try is to post a 'wanted' ad on some of the online sites, Gumtree, localads, etc. The 8800 is not exactly the most modern phone, and there may be several being given away.

Hope this helps. It's always great when you can make money off something like this, as you get the best of both worlds. A great contract, and the phone that you want, with the profit from the phone you sold. I often do this, as many of the phones given away with contracts are useless tome as they don't work with the software I use. No point keeping hundreds of pouns worth of useless technology :)

    Cheers and take care.

    Hussein.
