Chipped My Tooth on Asda Peanut

i once bought a jar of haywards mixed pickles and there was a centipede in it (dead of course!) i sent the whole jar back to haywards and they sent me an apology and a book of six first class stamps!! i wrote back and told them i was disgusted with this, as any one of us could have eaten this insect and i could have gone to trading standards with this. a week later i recieved a parcel with 12 jars of beetroot and pickles, i know this is off topic but it sometimes pays to persevere
Ahh, now if that were me in the quality control dept. I'd have sent you nothing for calling an arthropod belonging to the class Chilopoda and the subphylum Myriapoda an "insect"!!!!!!!
Some people!
If you're in a situation like this, it's often a good idea in your initial contact with a company to give them an idea of what sort of result you're expecting.
If you feel that a few jars of pickle, or a couple of choccy bars, or a £200 dental bill settling is what you would consider 'reasonable' then put it in the first letter.
The company then knows what it's dealing with and that they've not got a nutter on their hands who may well blame every future illness in their life on some reaction to the foreign body, and expect every future medical/dental bill to be sorted out.How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Centipedes aren't insects.0 -
It's a shame you didn't go to the dentist when this happened, as there is the possibility it has weakened the tooth and may cause future problems, may still be worth going to your dentist and getting it checked out.0

Write back, outline all your expenses. Say you do not accept the Gift Card and ask for renumeration. If you get payment GREAT! If not write again saying that you give them 14 days to respond or you will take Court Action against them via the Small Claims Court.
You are in a strong position as they have already admitted liability. Hopefully they will want to avoid court and settle.0 -

Renumeration for what exactly? No dentist bill, no time off work, no pain and suffering
They did not admit liability by sending a goodwill gesture of a giftcard. I bet you're an ambulance chaser in real life :j30/7/10:j

LOL, perhaps :P But she has a case0 -
I'd expected a bit more than a £5 gift card... I'd write back and complain a bit more! £5 is a bit stingy for a company the size of ASDA. I once found some string in some bread made in the ADSA store, it had come from the flour bag, this was years back and I complained in the store and was given a £20 gift voucher from the store manager there and then! In the days before gift cards came out!
What you were given last time is completely irrelevant: the compensation should be appropriate to the incident at hand not to an unrelated incident ten years ago! Fair compensation might be the cost of repairing the tooth so you are not out of pocket, but you haven't bothered to visit a dentist.Asda don't even know for sure that you have chipped a tooth.

Hint to others who may find themselves in a similar position: Sending the evidence to the company you may wish to claim against isn't very wise; they've been known to 'lose' such things which leaves you in a pretty poor position if you want to persue it further.
Take the evidence to your local Environmental Health department who have no vested interest in losing it. There's also a chance that you may not be the first this has happened to; lodging a complaint with them can help identify if there's been other cases like this and the EH dept can then prosecute or put pressure on the company to update their "-Stone seperator" (which clearly isn't very good) or other processes.
Obviously you're less likely to get your compensation paid for in peanuts, stamps or gift vouchers. But then your intention is to protect others from a similar risk, isn't it?
Isn't it?0 -
I actually thought ASDA's response was very good, as they'd quite clearly taken the trouble to look into their supply, and go through the audit papers. Quite a time consuming process, and does show their supplier does go to great lengths to make sure only peanuts get through...
As you didn't bother going to the dentist, therefore having nothing to claim, I'm not quite sure what else you want in this case.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
