    Are you sure?

If you've used 3/4 of £50 at, say, £1.00 per litre then that is 11.75 mpg and there is likely to be a fault with the car.

I had 21 miles left on the trip (petrol light on) and I put £30 in. Which gave me 111 miles (irrc).

I swear there is a hole in it somewhere

……..I want a car that is safe as I am shipping around three small children daily and need to know that we are all as safe as can be in it……….

Generally bigger is better in terms of safety, the down side is bigger is more petrol too

……..I am going to go to get some dust caps on Monday from Motor World.. they are usually quite good.. see what they say ……..

Drop into your local tyre place, get some dust caps & get them to tell you the recommended pressure and show you how to adjust it
  • I think with such low mpg you may have a fault with the car, or have a heavy right foot. You should be able to get 35mpg on the motorway from that car.

I wonder if its running rich?

What does running rich mean? What kind of work would I get done on it to get it better? 35mpg... I would LOVE that.. I wouldn't get rid of it if I was getting that from it!

And Landy .. just saw you comment about ebaying the triangle :D:rotfl:

Means the fuel system is throwing more fuel into the engine than it needs to run properly.

Do you get black smoke out of the exhaust when you accelerate? That is a sign of overfuelling (running rich)..

When did you last have it serviced by a proper garage?

No it doesn't throw out black smoke at all :)

I got it out the garage a few months back, had been there and had the ECUs repaired as it was shutting down whilst I was driving it

Actually .. auto electricians had it, not a garage.. but the Tax is due at the end of August and my Grandad is paying to have it all done.. so might just get it done a bit sooner.. I can't remember when it was MOT'd last.. although I did have the papers somewhere.. they will be with him though in his house.

I really like the Car and would love to keep it but seriously, I can't afford £200 a month in petrol!

  • I'm sure the car can be sorted out. I agree with the others, it sounds like something is wrong. When was it last serviced (this isn't the same as an MOT). It might be worth putting it in for a service and let a garage sort it out.

If you do a lot of short journeys fuel economy can fall alarmingly.

We have a Peugeot 405 diesel. A few years ago MrsLA used it just for travelling to work and back (about 4 miles each way). It did about 35mpg. Now I use it for long journeys and does about 55 - 60mpg.

I am definitely going to take it in and tell them the problem.. will be worth it.. it is a great looking, and reliable car!

I read that using the more expensive petrol can be better for MPG?
