Have a look at this - its american but it will give you the right idea:

My husband is great with cars.. can even repair the old (non electriccy) cars.. and when I told him I dont know how much air to put in he mumbled something but didn't tell me it was dangerous
I want a car that is safe as I am shipping around three small children daily and need to know that we are all as safe as can be in it.
I am going to go to get some dust caps on Monday from Motor World.. they are usually quite good.. see what they say
Thanks for that link, going to watch it now:cool:0 -
You can buy a pressure guage (halfords?) to check the tyre pressure. Use google to find out what it should be for your car and ether inflate or release air from tyres to get to the right pressure. I think 32 on all tyres is common but there are variations0

turn the air con off, you get more mpg that way. same with the radio.0

Thanks Landy Andy and Curious George - I am always on the brakes... although I do plan ahead quite well.... and yes I am guilty of starting the engine and sitting on the mobile phone, or doing make up in the mirror... or generally messing around.. but I thought turning it on and off all the time was bad for it?!
I just knew you would ask:D.
Next time you fill up push the nozzle fully into the filler neck and fill until the pump clicks off automatically. Wait for a count of five and then squeeze the filler trigger until the pump clicks off again.
Zero the trip counter or note the mileage.
Drive around until the tank is at least 3/4 empty.
Repeat the fill up procedure from step 1.
Make note of how much fuel you have put in and how many miles you have done since the first fill up.
Say you have done 300 miles and put in 40 litres.
40 litres = (40 x 0.22) gallons = 8.8 gallons.
300 miles on 8.8 gallons = (300 / 8.8) = 34.09 mpg.
Just substitute the figures you have recorded into this calculation.

So do I make a note of how many litres I put in? It will cost me another £60 to fill the tank up which I will do tomorrow.. possibly with it being 1/4 full.. then will be empty again prob in a few days.
On the plus side.. whilst cleaning the boot I found a plastic container velcrod in which contained a triangle with glowing colours on... brand new, never been used:cool:0 -

Are you sure?
If you've used 3/4 of £50 at, say, £1.00 per litre then that is 11.75 mpg and there is likely to be a fault with the car.0 -

Do what I wrote;):D.
You don't need to know how much you put in the first time. You need to know how much you put in the second time. Then you know how many miles you went and how much petrol you used doing those miles.
Ebaying the triangle may buy you enough gas to get to the end of your street.0 -

Winter is for Ice and S (Sport) is for overtaking boy racer chavs in their stolen Corsas
and for burning huge amounts of petrol.:D0 -
What car is that Dippy?0
