Invest in a steamer either two or three tiers.
A whole meal can be cooked in less than 40 mins.
Potatoes and veg in one tier. fish or chicken in the other.
saves putting 2,3 or 4 hob rings on. or putting the oven on.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I have a washing machine I use on the quickwash (30 mins) twice a week, no tumble drier and no electric shower, it works of the combi boiler.

The Old Stylers never use the oven for one item, so always try to think of something else to cook. Use the slow cooker more often, turn the temperature down on the washing machine (it's the heat not the turning that costs), turn the shower off whilst you are soaping up.

our daily average is 6 and that is for 2 of us, home all day. PC and laptop are on much of the day but nothing is on standby. I got rid of the bedside clock radio and use separate items, which I can turn off at the wall

I cook/bake every single day but hardly ever use the oven as it gobbles up electricity eg I am making sourdough bread today but will bake in a remoska (lakeland limited) I made scones in that yesterday and easrlier a casserole in the same remoska

My washing machine is used at 60 for bacteria bashing re sheets, towels etc but it is full when I use 60. Otherwise washes are done at 30-40

I have a cuisinart steamer and do a complete meal in it. Salmon at the bottom, rice in a bowl, veg added later

I second the slow cooker. Cheap to buy and cooks a wonderful meal, just don`t add too much liquid

Cook a big pot of whatever on the hob, or in the slow cooker. Cool quickly and use for more meals

228 metric / 44 days = 5.18kwh a day for us (2 in a 3 bed semi, brand new). I dont think thats bad at all really, considering dishwasher and washing machine is on 4 times a week, missus uses the electric shower in the ensuite at least once a day (I use the gas powered one in the other bathroom), oven is on 3 times a week, telly and laptops are on for about 4/5 hours a day, fridge freezer etc

Contrasted to our first 43 days after moving in we used 262, 38kwh improvement in 44 days :)

Thanks for all the advice. I definitely think it's the oven. I'm not using it today so will see what happens!

Well I've just checked my meter and from 10pm last night to 9am this morning I have used 1kw of electricity. I had the V+ box on standby, the clock on on the boiler, the fridge freezer, my clock radio, the phone and my tv in my room would have been on standby. I guess that's not bad.

Yes but that period is overnight so not really representative, measure a 24hr cycle.
You should not leave the TV on standby overnight if you really want to save money, buy a standby saver unit or similar to switch it off from the remote.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Yes I take your point. I have taken the reading this morning and will do the same in 24 hrs time. I was just wondering if a kw overnight was good or bad.

Well it appears to be about a sixth of your daytime consumption.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

It's not that 1KW is bad, although that is 365KWH per year, it's that most of it is a waste. Bear in mind that's less than half a full day, so those same items on standby are using at least another 365KWH during the daytime needlessly. The only thing that needs to be on overnight is the fridge-freezer.
