I know but millions of people watch this rubbish - and will believe it !
You wouldn't have liked Brookside then, more dead bodies than the graveyard, bit like that Midsommer place
then again would you go on holiday wuth Jessica Fletcher? 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
The mrs is watching Coronation Street from last night and they have a young couple who have just got a 15K loan for a deposit to buy a flat, do it up and sell it on for profit.
The script went something like this:
BOY: Excellent - we have been approved for the loan
MUM: Why are you getting yourself into debt
BOY: We need a loan for the deposit, we will never save up for it
MUM: It's because of people living beyond their means that caused the credit crunch.
BOY: So what, we want the flat.
MUM: Why are you rushing into this.
BOY: It's business, we are going to do it up and sell it for a huge profit.
MUM: Can't you wait?
BOY: No we need to buy while prices are low because they will start to rise soon.
I can't believe this crap is scripted into a mainstream soap.

Soaps basically consist of fairly simple morality tales. I'd lay money that what will happen is that instead of this investment turning a profit it'll turn sour. The message is that greed is bad and runs you into trouble.
After all that was what happened to Ian Beale at the height of a property boom, wiped him out completely.
Actually it wouldn't be that interesting if the investment quietly made someone some cash and they moved away to a nice house in Cheshire.0 -

Absolutely correct, I don't watch soaps but have done in the past when various girlfriends/wife have been watching it, I suspect this storyline will all end in tears, perhaps the script writers aren't too far away from the truth with this one, especially with what we are seeing out there at the moment. Fools rush in perhaps ??0 -

That's what they're using to do the place up to sell on (they revealed that three episodes ago so you may have missed that one);)I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
There was a storyline on Corrie a few years back when Ken and Deidre's nasty daughter rang up the posh wedding venue and pretended to be the bride and cancelled everything out of spite. A friend of mine was planning a wedding at the time, and her gran rang her to warn her in case any of her 'friends' were planning to do the same. The soaps are very "real" to some people....They are an EYESORES!!!!0

Wouldn't it be terrible if our lack of financial discipline in the real world set an example which brought financial misery on millions of people in fictional worlds?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Wouldnt take it too seriously, its a soap, not real life
Quite possibly they'll take the 15k loan and buy a house. Spend everything they have on reonvation and then find themselves £30k over budget and unable to sell. So they move into the property until the market "picks up"."For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Those who don't understand, dont matter."0
