Sainsburys Interview

Options
With my OH not working at present and only working part time myself (admin & filing etc in an office) we are not making ends meet so I applied online for a part-time job at my local Sainsburys. Much to my amazement I have been invited (!) for an interview! Any advice from anyone would be much appreciated. I havent worked in a Supermarket since I was about 16 and that is a very long time ago. The job is a Customer Service Assistant ,working checkouts. Are Sainsburys good employers? I am 48 and dont think I have ever had a proper job interview, have always been lucky to have been offered a job by people who already know me. I have no formal qualifications and am not confident at all
Sorry for sounding like a wimp but I am a bit nervous about it all :o
Thanks for reading

I had an interview a few years back and the one I had the interviewer just asked me about myself and then they usually ask you things like give me an example of when you helped a customer or were in awkward situation. They were alright employers and the hours are flexible on checkouts. Good luck!
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T

why do you not pop into the store and look for a new trainee and ask them? If you get the job, the you sort of already have made a new friend too.

Don't do this - it puts the trainee in an awkward position and could end up costing the trainee their job.

I would do what sharkie says but why dont you pop in and have a mooch around at the store, sainsburys are perfectly fine to work for, ive worked at 2 stores on 2 different occaisons and its been fine, you get a discount card after 6 months, if you join the ssa which is a £1 a month you get discounted trips to see a show or they might arrange a meal at a restaurant somewhere, friendly staff always willing to help,

    I work for them!
You get 10% staff discount and that increases to 15% at peak times, ie Christmas and Easter etc. Last year our 15% lasted from the end of oct to beginning of jan.
The pay is ok (£6.08 out of London areas) after a qualifying period.

They prefer to take on people with life skills, and people that they think will work hard for them, obviously if you are going to be on the customer service till then you will need good communication skills and be able to work under pressure and remain polite!

Good luck, I am sure you will do fine.

Lordy, I can hardly believe it but I got the job!! Interview on Wednedsay morning, went fine, apart from a couple of disruptions for the interviewer from other members of staff! I got the text this morning telling me that I have been offered the job :-) I have 3 induction days next week and then I guess that's it!! Thanks everyone for your time here.
