Each to their own and I am glad that so many people are enjoying cruises, but for me it would be my worst nightmare. My sister goes on them all the time so I have heard alot about them and seen plenty of pictures. I would hate being with loads of other tourists being taken to places on mass. Being with loads of other brits. When I go on holiday I like to go places that don't attract loads of tourist. I like to eat where the locals eat and experience new things. Do things as and when I feel like it not when I am told to.

ha s anyone cruised on the cunard ships in particular the qe2 with children? i would be grateful for any comments.

We went on QE2 thinking that it would be wonderful as we had previously cruiesed on Oriana and Aurora. Well, it was awful! Don't waste your money, it's not a patch on P&O Oriana and Aurora - we didn't see our children for the whole of the holiday on P&O as there was so much for them to do.

If you go on a cruise then you'll never want to go on another type of holiday again.

My parents have used an American website a few times now - https://www.VacationsToGo.com (not sure if they are related to the co.uk site someone else mentioned) they will display the price in dollars or pounds

Mom and Dad usually book a cheap flight through someone else and take advantage of the list of cruises that leave within 90 days. They have had discounts of up to 65% off list prices. My Dad is one of those people that "likes what he likes" - we always take the mickey that he won't try new things! Cruises have given him the chance to try loads of different places without having to commit to 2 weeks there and moms happy because she was getting bored with the same thing every year!

    Hope that helps someone!

Claire02 Ive seen Vacations to Go but couldnt figure outhow to get the price into £s, it would worry me that if I booked flight seperate and it was delayed Id miss the boat (No pun intended!!!) lol.

They're really cheap on Cruise2go, is that because holidays are cheaper in USA in general??

well done Ivan and to add

the one we went on had a restaurant that was about 100 meters long by about 50 wide. I dont think ive been in a bigger one on land.

Must admit I had my reservations but they really are huge.
  • Booked on a princess cruise out of southampton for May half term. Have found out today that they have reversed the itinery from when we booked so instead of day one being sunday and at sea we are going to St Peter port 7am til 12 and instead of the friday afternoon and La Rochelle on monday instead of thursday. We planned to do our own thing rather than the excursions but both will be shut. Is ther anything we can do about this or can princess alter the route at any time. Please advise.

https://www.vacationstogo.com is the same as https://www.vacationstogo.co.uk and you get the prices in £ there is a free phone number too on the UK one 0800 279 8084 there is also https://www.resortvacationstogo.com which is good for the odd night pre or post cruise but dont take it blindly that they are the cheapest shop round before booking

They can alter the cruise as much as they like...it's the one area of the cruise industry I think needs tightening up alot

I think the overriding problem is the weather and that the captain has the ultimate say in the safety of his vessel and its passengers. The limit of liability is effectively the cost of port taxes however I have seen some cruises offering 25%+ discount on future cruises and £100 per day. As a cruiser (and someone who temporarily got abandoned in St Lucia) I accept it is just one of those things (and it is made clear in the T&C)

I agree when the cruise in under way that the captain as ultimate say but I dont think they should be allowed to change at will before the cruise as even set off without offering compensation. People often book a cruise for the ports of call and pay the money in good faith that they will be seeing those places. Then the cruise company can change the ports without any warning and you are left with ports that you have no interst in
