If you havnt cruised before try a week first. You can pick up bargain last minutes ones if thats partical or even try the 4 day ones out of Southampton I have seen those long weekend crusies on web sites for about 199. Just think a 2 week Caribbean cruise is risky ..what if you hate it after a day its a long way and a lot of money to spend...try a week you will be hookedIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0

Yes, I know what you're saying here.. probably very wise but we're big risk takers (lol) we recently toured NZ the length and breadth with a small baby in a bloody campervan from hell so a cruise would be a breeze I recon
we're not fussy and never complain, we just enjoy whatever... but we just can't stand the same old kinda thing.. you know, stuck in the same place the whole time?!
I'm thinking a week maybe? at christmas?
You seem a real expert at this.. thanks for replying. :T0 -

Thanks again, you're a star! :beer:0 -
Like any holiday it is only what you make it ... think of the cruise ship as little more than a fully inclusive floating 4/5* hotel with various show lounges so that each morning when you wake up you are at a different resort.New_Panda_Bear wrote:Is it always this lively on a cruise?
I always thought they sounded a dull as ditchwater but now i am not so sure.;)
On cruises recently we have done
- shot over jet boat ride
- quad biking
- tubing
- rafting
- semi submarine / submarine trip (including stingray city)
- screamer (wave rider)
- jet skiing
- snorkelling
- zip lining
- walking up Dunns river Falls
- general island tours (including on Rum party buses)
- tours into volcanoes
- tours to various distilleries
- shopping (blame DW on that one)
- catamarran trip (yes the rum punch was flowing and music blasting)
- gone to Hell (Grand Cayman)
- visiting caves (Hato, Harrison)
- lying on a desert island beach while eating the supplied barbecue and having cocktails brought to you
Other options that we have not yet explored are
- horse riding
- helicopter rides
- swimming with dolphins (have done this but not on a cruise)
- whale watching
- scuba diving
- snuba diving
- bike rides
There are so many things to do and so little time to include them all.

Christmas is likely to be expensive and many are already well booked for Christmas 2006.Diamonds wrote:Where should I start looking? and is Christmas a really expensive time?
For families I would also suggest Royal Caribbean who seem to cater really well or Princess or P&O (all have excellent childrens clubs) .. also remember Disney has a couple of ships as well .. the kids might thank you for it but it might be a stress for mummy and daddy
. Talk to the cruise specialist in your local travel agent and contact various online retailers (is there a specialist cruise seller in your area) .. have a look at teletext pages (loads of bargains). Check out the purple pages on ship-happens (click the date column in the top left to bring the most recent posts to the top .. it is quite a basic chatboard but there are some great people on it).

I wouldn't do Princess Cruises, did you not watch The Apprentice the other night?
That was on a princess cruises and the average age was about 83! No families on that boat! It seems to be your 'typical' old fashioned ship, with the clientel you would tradionally associate with cruises. Enough said! If you've no kids and a little older, you might love it!0 -

Been on Princess and it very much depends on when you are cruising ... in term time there will be an older crowd but in the holidays is a different matter. The average age would be older than Royal Caribbean but it does have an excellent childrens club and is a fantastic cruise line (possibly one of our favourites). On our last Princess cruise I will admit that DW and I were referred to as 'the youngsters'missk_ensington wrote:I wouldn't do Princess Cruises, did you not watch The Apprentice the other night?

... it seemed to stick and was used even by a couple that were younger than us (with several children on tow).
