MOT Certificate

I think this is just one of those things that will never be satisfacturally answered, the car is ok and roadworthy when it leaves the garage but is it ok 10 minutes later when its bumped up a kerb for example, and while we are on it, why should a new car not have to be MOTeD for 3 years when (if its been a company car) it may have done as many miles as a car 10 years old, which the government are trying to get off the road. I know a few years ago there was talk of there being a need for an MOT only every 2 years, can anyone update on this0

God, I think I'm bangin my head on the wall here, :wall::wall::wall:
Well you are a bit and its not all your fault...
Blame VOSA. They make the rules and even though we all know where you are coming from, it won't change anything.
Your MOT runs out when it runs out... end of...
And obviously if an MOT is taken early and a serious/dangerous fault is found, then the garage can refuse to let it be removed. But the MOT runs out when it runs out....Everyone has to use a bit of common sense - take the OP for example - failed on a wheel bearing but ok for the mo and will get it repaired in a couple of days, well before when the current MOT runs out.
He has been a sensible motorist by having his MOT early.
It could be worse - we could change to the EU and MOT's would be every two years... :eek:Genie

Sorry Jeanie but while I know what you are saying, unfortunately someone has tested the car early and has said, "whoah", this car is no longer fit for the road, that goes to vosa. Which has priority the 11 month old mot or the New one?
I fully understand that the old one is still technicaslly legal, but in court I very much doubt the owner would win? ? ?I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
In court for what?
He wouldn't be in court for driving without a valid MOT. Or if he was he would win!0 -
He would be in court if he got pulled up for bald tyres and the like - but not a noisy wheel bearing.Genie

No quentin, not for driving without an mot, he would still have one, but he would also have a FAIL CERTIFICATE, and so wouls VOSA and if he had a mishap, or heavens forbid killed someone due the a fault picked up on the failure, where would he stand.
I won't post again, you know what I meanI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

The police can stop a defective vehicle being driven away, I’m pretty sure MOT stations don’t have the same power.0 -
As has been said on another forum, a car could pass its MOT, and on reversing out could smash a light, which would fail a fresh MOT, but unless pulled by the police could still be drven and legally have 12 months MOT on it0
