The Kia Picanto suggestions are spot on - & you'll find there are (smallish) discounts available, too!!

Compare it to Ka & it is much better proposition, all round. Ka is old now, where as Picanto is new & modern engine & designed.

Check http://www.honestjohn.co.uk clik This Weeks Best Deals for up to the minute £$£$£ of GENUINE offers, on lots models!!

why does it have to be new? surely a 1-2 year old car would be much more moneysaving without compromising too much on the "new" feel. certainly as a new driver there are more than the usual bumps and scrapes and i certainly feel better letting someone else handle the 30% depreciation over the first year! surely a 2nd hand vw polo, seat ibiza new fiesta or old shape ford focus would be a better bet?
  • The Honest John website latest deals include a Hyundai Getz for under £6,000.
It's a nice, smart car, nothing flash or likely to wow your friends, but efficient and covered by the best warranty around. Has a lot of kit at that price, but not air conditioning.
On the other hand that's a good point about maybe buying nearly new, a year old or so, instead. It's true about the scratches as a new driver - remember mine only too well :o -and second hand does open up your options a lot more.

As Thetope suggests, buying used MAY save some $£$£$

But if you do your homework, check out the deals & offers around on new, plus include a bit of haggle factor, longer warranty/cheap or free finance/cashback & all the rest of it, that the car makers offer, quite often the NEW car purchase isn't that much more expensive - ESPECIALLY at this price range of the matket.

Smart ForFour, 1.3 Passion 6 speed Automatic, Climate control, abs, multiple air bags, 2 year unlimited mileage warranty + breakdown, etc etc etc, 1 year old 10,000 miles £6500. Now that's a deal. Yes it's discontinued but at that price who cares!

Insurance on the picanto for 21 and over is brilliant. The downside is there is a £650.00 excess for young drivers and in year 2 the insurance price will rocket.

Why have they discontinued it already? It only came out a couple of years ago.
