Kia Picanto... brilliant little car. Both my daughters have one, the LX version. Has everything you could want, from electric windows all round to air con, CD player, alarmed, 5 doors. I have asked and asked and no one has found any faults or major problems, their resale value is good too. Insurance group 3. Better than Ford ANY DAY!! KA, basic box with a steering wheel!!

We bought ours from this place, special offer at moment £6,300. My youngest daughter has had hers 1 year now, without a problem. It is fun to drive and comfortable.

They are based in Manchester but they deliver it..at a price of course.

    Hope that helps.

Toyota Yaris are supposed to be excellent in terms of reliability and build, not sure how much they cost though!

  • Apart from being available for around £6K the Kia Picanto is currently on offer with a year's free insurance according to their website, which might come in handy for a new/young driver.

Haven't driven one, though they look to be ideal if most of your driving will be in and around town.

Thanks Stevebananer for adding that, trouble is you have shown the prices by buying it from a Kia dealer, in true MSE style I have shown you where to buy it cheaper for a brand new car. They are pre-reistered, but hey..... I am sure there are other places that sell them at a good price too. Just I have used this place with no probs.

The free insurance I am afraid is for over 21 year olds only...as usual!

As for just using it around town. We went to a uni open day in Manchester, bearing in mind live in South Glos, there was 3 in the car and not only is there loads of room in the back, it is comfortable too. It aint a roller but for a small car it goes really well. I have only found one downside the boot is very small, but with split rear seats it can be versatile. It also has ABS and remote central locking

If you go for the base version it still has a good speck for the price. Mostly I have seen the LX version around, (we have 2 both LX).

Just checked Yaris prices £8,990, no air con, no rear electric windows and only 1.0 ltire.

Remember that initial cost is not the only factor. In three years time the £6k Picanto will be worth less than the £5k Ka.
Insurance will be roughly the same. Most Picantos and Kas are groups 2 and 3.

I wouldn't bank on that. The Picanto is still very new, but depreciation for it's first year is very good. I have read many reports that say the Picanto is going to hold it's price, so the KA is probably the worst option. Personally speaking I hate Ford. KA's are 2 a penny, and speck is really bad.

Why not take a look at https://www.youngmarmalade.co.uk who offer Micras Puntos etc atdiscount prices with a very cheap insurance scheme specifically aimed at ages 17 - 24.The normal mileage limit is 6000 but can be increased.
  • Davidboy, I just sent the link to the Kia website to illustrate the free insurance and to give OP an idea of the spec.
I haven't been here long, but long enough to know that a car manufacturer's list prices aren't there to be paid, only to be beaten... :D
