Incorrect registration number

I got a parking ticket today but the registration number listed is not mine. The number listed is slightly wrong, but other details are correct, such as make and model. The attendant took a photo at the time.

The ticket is a PCN from a local council.

My question is whether this is enforceable given that the car listed is not mine?

I assume they will issue a notice to the registered holder of the vehicle listed. Would they then be able to come back on me given that the photo would have the correct registration number?

Would it be better to appeal rather than ignore it, assuming I would have valid grounds to appeal?

OP, please read the sticky on the front of this board and follow the instructions. Do not contact the council at this stage, until you have had some advice from those in the know on here.

However, as far as I know, an incorrect vehicle registration renders a PCN invalid. They cannot just re-issue with the correct number.

    This is also my understanding.

I concur with the learned posts above. Do not contact the council, a wrong VRN is fatal.

Why bother to appeal? How would they be able to pursue you, having got the registration wrong they can't get your address from DVLA. If they issue another pcn then its not allowed and null and void.

My worry is that if I ignore the ticket, will they track me down using the photo? I assume that they would be able to work out the real registration from this.

Are you saying that the wrong registration invalidates the ticket?

AIUI they have only one chance of giving you a pcn. If they louse it up they are not entitled to re-issue it with a changed number on. File it away safely in case they try it on but till then there's nothing to be done.
They issue you with a pcn, you don't reply to them so they send a notice to owner. Unless something awakens them to the fact that they put the incorrect number on they will try to shase the address associated with the number, as its not yours than its going to be some time before they twig the error and by then its too late.

Its not so much an "ignore" more of a "wait and see"and file the pcn safely.
