Lee, you're such a geek - just look at that graph! ;)

Well done on your continued debtbusting, but don't be too hard on yourself for your Costa spend. You would literally go mad if you spent absolutely nothing at all on yourself for a very long time, and as you have pointed out, it is actually something you will use, and which will last a long time. Also, you foget the reverse psychology aspect of it which is in looking at the coffee and feeling naughty, it wil stop you from going off the rails in a much bigger manner and keep you in check psychologically.

    Honest!

Anyway, keep up the good work! :T

I knew there was a reason I loved this place.

    It's you guys!

    Good points, Pickle. Thank you.

  • Getting annoyed with Barclays lately. (see this thread). It seems all the while you're happy to be in debt, banks love you. As soon as you try and say "no thanks any more!" they gang up on you.

Grr. I will not be pooped on!

Well, now there's a kick in the teeth if ever there was one.

I never really discussed my circumstances in full here - but to give a bit of background:

I got married in 2005. In that time I had a loan for £10k and a credit card (maxed out). Unbeknown to me, my wife held a secret gambling habit. She accrued loans totaling some 20k, and numerous credit cards. The exact amount was never known to me.

In December, she left me. I had my LBM in January this year and embarked on the DFW journey. My estranged wife, however, went bankrupt. I've just learned she has got early discharge and is now debt free. I take the humble route and pay off what I owe, yet she goes bankrupt and gets out of this mess before I do.

Sorry to vent. I know from reading here that bankruptcy isn't simple or easy or pleasant.. but the whole concept has upset me.

Hi Lee, just found your thread, might seem like your ex has it easy but she may have problems getting bank accounts, mortgages or even renting some places - so doing it your way will be better for you.

  • Thanks, skint_spice. I guess I knew that deep down.

Just needed to vent really :) Thanks for listening.

  • Its hard when its like that, like you I have read other stories and think yep bankruptcy is very difficult thing to have to do and what I am doing is better in the long run but on the other hand at moments when I don't know, I watch things like rogue traders(bear with me there is a point) and some git has started four different business and declared bankrupty all over the show and they are still ripping people and you just think WHY and Its not fair. etc.

We all need to vent occasionally.

And you are Nearly There, you must be so excited am jealous but give me 9 months (or less!!) and I will be there too!

    Have a good week

    xxxx
    Nevertheless she persisted.
  • Thanks Buffy. You're so right about Rogue Traders... that makes me mad for a whole different set of reasons. I understand wifey had no hope of paying her debts on her own and despite the reason, it wasn't because she was a defrauding cow taking victims left right and centre.

My personal countdown is on - 12 days to debt freedom. I'm actually quite scared. I won't owe anyone anything for the first time in my adult life. That's a very odd feeling.

I hope your day comes around just as quickly. :)

Don't forget Lee that you have learned financial lessons that will last you, and your future kids perhaps, a lifetime ... you have trodden your own path and inspired others to follow your no spend month! Oh and you have one of the all time great siggies, again inspirational: has your ex done any of that? ;)

it must be odd, I have been in debt since I was 19. I wonder what it feels like?
