in Water bills
Just wondering if anyone has ever been billed for a property they left over 2 1/2 years ago.
I received a bill this morning for £1,478.23 for my old house. I was having direct payments made and the letter stated that they had now stopped.
I move Christmas 2006 and notified all respective energy companies etc. Now they must have it on record that I moved the bill was addressed to my new home. I have phoned them and they want my new Tenancy Agreement to prove when I moved, and they will sort it out. Is there any way I can find out how much the yearly water charges were, all my old bills are in a box in the loft.
Thanks for any advice

To get direct payments you must have been in arrears with them to begin with. Direct payments only pay the minimum amount towards the debt so normally when they stop there is a outstanding balance.
If you were on a meter then your bills would depend on your usage and if you were on RV then it would depend on your rateable value. There is no way to guess which one you were being charged on so you will need to check that out.
It sounds like your old account was not closed, which can happen if no one links the old account to a new one, or it is not mentioned at the time to close the old one (as if no one says "oh I have an account here" the agent would not know where to look)
Get the tenancy agreement off to them and take it from there.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Thanks for the reply, yes I was in arrears by £148.00 which I'm not disputing, and having direct payments of just under £3 per week, which from the time diect payments started to me paying them off would have had the debt cleared my end March 2007.
I moved from one end of the country to the other and told the water board this and when I gave them my date for moving. Direct payments continuted and I thought all was ok until I received the letter yesterday.
I'll also after phone the DSS on Monday to find out when direct payments actually stopped.2011 Sealed Pot Challenge #1238 hoping for £250 ~ saved £743.32
