    The DG834G v1 uses a different chipset to the DG834G v2 and DG834GT. The latter two models do run reasonably hot. They are both known to be problematic with regards to firmware.

    I've got a DG834GT and it tooks months before Netgear got a stable firmware released. Earlier releases would work for some people but not all, their latest offering though seems to work for the majority.

    Dropping connection is a common problem with them though. Luckily I've not been victim to such a problem.

    On the whole, I'm now happy with mine, but the 2-3 months where it was near unusable certainly tainted my opinion of Netgear.
