We are wanting to get one but have a few hurdles already to get over!
Firstly we are not sure whether they will deliver up our stairs as we are in a on house..anyone had one delivered?
BUT the main one is if it gets in the house is the radiator in the kitchen..the space short is about 5cm so want it taken off or is it easier to move..can this be done?..obviously this has added to the cost but i have just seen that some need plumbing in..is there any way that we can have it plumbed in via the radiator pipes some how or is that not safe? would solve 2 things at once! it would be fully filtered but unsure how it works..if not how do i know if they need plumbing in as some sites dont say until you read some reviews.
Thankyou...may have moved by the time i get this sorted out!!

We had one. Well big. Had to take patio doors off the hinges.. It aint going nowhere now.
You do know the radiator pipes etc is a sealed system, yeh? The water thats in there stays in there and is circulated around and heated. Not fresh water all the time from the mains !!!!!!:D:D
You'd probably keel over if you drunk water from the radiator - theres all sorts of additives etc in there.
Plumbing in is easy enough if its close to a sink. Its just a cold water feed you need. B+Q and places sell kits that you just clamp on and it cuts into the pipe for you as well. Not that hard. This then gives you an outlet (like the washing machine one) which connects to a filter then to thin pipe that feeds into the fridge.
OF course, if urs doesnt have ice cube maker / water dispenser it wont need this. They are nice to have though.0 -
I have been investigating for a few weeks on this topic because I want a side by side fridge with ice and water dispenser but can't realistically get the plumbing to the fridge without major work.
LG have recently released a USA style model that has water/ice but does not need to be plumbed in, as far as I know this is the only model available. Model is GWL227HSYA.
With regards to delivery you would need to check with whoever you buy it from - it is your responsibility to make sure it will fit through the doors etc though!0 -

I've got a Samsung side by side fridge with water. Getting it in the house was an issue I must admit - luckily I had patio doors !!!
The water is fed through a washing machine type connector. Its not that difficult to do. If you've got copper pipes you can buy a kit from B+Q where it clamps on to the pipe, then you turn it to cut the pipe etc. Dead easy.
Or if pipes are plastic, buy a plastic tap thing, turn water off, cut plastic pipe and stick plastic tap thing in. Pipes are push fit so just push back in together. Easy.0 -
Thanks guys...ok well my plumber has just rung and job sorted!..radiator not a prob and pipes cut and hidden..then plumbing it he agreed with the killing us bit as the water not safe..doh typical blonde im afraid when it comes to stuff like this! BUT i have worries that it will just not fit in our house..nevermind the fact that we live up 12 stairs..how big is the packagin? wonder if they will take it off at the back door so it will fit in..ill ring somone i think! after all this it prob wont be possible grr.0

When I had mine delivered they had a hell of a job getting it in, the fridge doors came off, and even then it only just fit thru the back door (75cm opening) They wouldn't take door off, if it had needed to be done I would have had to do it
You may find they wont deliver it up 12 steps-check with the company before you pay your money.
They are HEAVY-the 2 big blokes who delivered it had to really HEFT it up the garden path steps-I thought they would refuse delivery on H&S grounds, the 1st guys who came to deliver said it couldn't be done and they needed special equipment, 2nd guys said that equip couldn't be used anyway-it was just hard work and the 1st guys couldn't be bothered! But that was 3 steps in the path, not 12 full stairs-check first!
If we move-am selling it with the house0 -
Thanks..hmm doesnt sound good dos it! ill ask our local shop who i have asked to get some prices for us and see how scared they look when i tell them!..if not the other idea is as my sister has just suggested and what the shop in question sold but were £749 each!)..is a freezer with ice machine in and a fridge with water in but seperates..any ideas if they exist as commonly as usa ones?
Thanks0 -
As a point of interest most of these fridges have doors which are specifically designed to be removed very quickly for the purposes of getting them in an out of your house.
This usually takes 50 to 60mm off the width and in my experience it's easier to put the fridge doors on than rehang an interior door (or worse, refit a door casing which I've heard of people removing!!).
On a Daewoo/Samsung it's usually one or two nuts on the top of the fridge, and a quick release electrical connector - instructions for removing the doors are in the books supplied with most fridges, but I know mine specifically had a section on doing so for the purposes of transportation.
Note usually delivery men will -not- do this since there is concerns on scratching surfaces etc which they don't want to be held liable for obviously. My delivery driver left mine outside the front door on the drive and basically said 'there you go' - but in truth, if I had his job, I'd of not hung around for the half hour it took to get the fridge disassembled, lifted in, and then the doors refitted.0 -
Hi thanks for the reply..well we have it!! not without trouble i can tell you! the lads arrived and decided they would not deliver it up the stairs without another person...theres me running up and down the rd trying to find someone...anyone!! called every male on my phone i can think of..no one answering grrr..as sson as i let the delivery men go and it was safely in the garage they all called me back!! ended up with dh and 2 of his mates and my friends hubby and friends boyfriend..got it up no probs but stood there nervously while they got it through the doors! only had to take some of the card off while it went through 2 last doors and all well..no doors removed!! It looks fab..big but really nice and im happy as larry!
(do have to stop polishing it though!!)0 -

Just to make you aware, you dont need normal piping cable,
You cna get away with 1/4" piping (available in loads of colours if that helps)
heres the link here:http://www.ro-man.com/shop/product_info.php/cPath/286_30/products_id/199?osCsid=63c8389dced1570e18b402a92d38747a
from this site you can also get the tap piercing (pierces a hole in your copper pipes and allows you to connect the above pipe to it) sounds painful and bad, but it comes with a clamp+ turn off switch)
at your fridge you can get adaptors to allow you to connect tthe 1/4" cable to it!
finally from the site above you can get filters which are much cheaper than getting the offical one
For the above site im a happy customer only!
hope that helps!0 -
Hi nick thanks for that! all i know is our plumber ran ours from near our washing machine and behind our units so it is all hidden..he then fitted a washing machine attachment and the fridge came with all the pipe to fit and the washing machine part and we just cut pipe to size and screwed in..took about 10 mins if that!..my plumber did the parts in about half hour so not too hard from what i gather! I origionally wanted it behind our door but decided we would see pipe work so have got it as you walk in..looks lovely and we have ice and water on tap!:j0
