That is fantasic. A huge achievement. He must be absolutely chuffed to bits with himself. My boy was also about 9 - not being blessed with coordinated limbs he refused to try from the age of six when he outgrew his bike with stabilisers. One day he just got on his cousins bike and husband and I were amazed to see him actually go it pedal. Now there's no stopping him. He passed his cycling proficiency in the October term and cycles to school on nice days. :T

Ah that's great! :) Start bulk buying plasters now. You'll be needing loads shortly for all the skint knees he'll get when he starts to skid and do wheelies....or whatever else they do these days. :rotfl:

*These days*.....oh heck! I AM my Mum. :o

My little lad whos 6 decided he was going to ride his bike without stabilisers on sunday. I was amazed as he literally just got on and off he went. He was a tad wobbly at first but was bombing round the park by the end of the day.

it must be a good week for it mitcho :D

once the stabilisers came off and he couldn't get the hang of it he got a scooter and roller skates instead, and skateboard. today he went over to play with his cousins (both of whom could ride properly at the age of 4 lol!) and had a go on theirs, and it just happened. he's wobbly though but he's so excited and proud of himself :D

It made me cry, my baby is no longer a baby any more.
I feel very old my babys are growing up -
DS#2 is trying to do the potty thing.

Stock up on the plasters and get used to being on first name terms with the drivers of the large white taxi and the casualty staff at your local hospital :rotfl:

Well done to your son Jellyhead. Its such a proud parent momment when they learn to ride a bike.:j

Get your son to walk along the narrow stones on the curb putting one foot in front of the other. Play a fun game - e.g there are sharks on the pavement and killer whales on the road, so he has to keep to these stones. The co-ordination and cross lateral movement needed will improve his cycling.

    Congrats Jellyhead

Still waiting for little miss divadee to ride hers shes 8!! She fell off a couple fo years ago and doesnt liek to ride it since. (she wasnt hurt or anything)

She doesnt have much coordination with ball games etc... But expert swimmer and runner so dont know what to do about hers.

All her friends can ride them i felt she was the only one in the world at 8 that could not ride one.

You have made my day for sharing this hun :kiss
