I pay mine in at the bank. No way I'm giving away 7% !0

By using a card to pay for virtually everything, I now avoid getting much in the way of change in the first place.Stompa0

i pay mine in the bank, which i have done this morning whilst paying a cheque in.
though am a bit dubious now they do the weighing of the coins now rather than counting, as i was apparently 5p short in the 5p bag today than i thought it was. whilst i could have missed it or dropped, it i counted up twice before bagging it, and strangely i was apparently 5p short when i paid a bag of 5's in before xmas??
i assumed i had mis counted last time, but with it being the same this time around as well i am wondering if the scales are calibrated proparly? especially as it was the same coin type (as i paid in 2's, 1's, 5's 10's and 20's) unless i am number dyslexic when it comes to 5's lol!
i didnt bother questining it over 5p as it sounds pathetic, but it does make me wonder!
and i didnt feel guilty one bit in paying it in, as i went to a different branch earlier this week, was in que for 25 mins, only had 3 cash tills open yet had 7 people wandering round the branch trying to flog x, asking if you wanted a reveiw etc,MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -

Weighing machines are calibrated, very common in shops too for counting the cash- banks have been weighing coins in for years if bagged to the amounts.
RBS also have the coinstar type machines- the end is nigh for Coinstar taking 7% of your change! :T0 -
I save mine as part of the 'sealed pot challenge' on the DFW boards. I had over £1k last year - and put it into an ISA. Thi year I'm gonna pay it off one of my last debts. I don't miss my change - and try to save as many £1 and £2 coins too. HSBC don't seem to mind if you take a lot of bags in one go. But I do try to take a max of 10 at a time - a they're heavy, heavy, heavy.....
Save me from spending...

go to the bank!
dont feel guilty about holding up the queue.
there are many times ive been into banks and you have been waiting in the queue forever and your legs have gone numb.
The cashiers/customer service at banks is appalling, the cashiers take out time to have a chat with their collegues, or dissapper for ages to photocopy or print something which should take five mins or less, they never feel guilty, which holds the queue up for longer.0 -

I was given one of those coin sorter machines as a present. You chuck all your loose change into it and it sorts / counts it into little tubes which you then just empty into a bag and take to the bank. It fascinates me watching it sort the coins! If you will the end, you must will the means.0
