Weighing In Your Spare Change

I am currently unemployed and have started weighing in my spare change at the Coinstar machines (found in Tesco's, ASDA, Morrisons etc.) You are issued with a voucher which you have to spend in-store on the same day.
They charge you 7% (7p in the £1) but so far I have found about £200 worth of change which is coming in useful.
The other method is to count it all into bags and make a nuisance of yourself by holding up the queue when you deposit it in the bank

link.. spare coins, loose change .. Whenevever I buy fuel for car, ensure that I have previously counted out 99p in loose change, then store it in a used smarties or similar cardboard tube ( cut in half, to produce a U shaped trough, then top half secured with elastic band !.. Then I go for £10.99/£20.99 etc. of fuel, hand over a £20 note plus loose change. I buy newspapers with loose change, along with lunchtime snacks during work hours.. Provided you sort coins in value order, plus avoid handind over 99 one pence pieces, you will be OK, usually !!0

I use the self service tills. Costs nothing. A good way to empty your pockets. The one I use it about 10 feet from a coinstar machine.;)

I pay in my coins at the bank as soon as I have enough of one type to make up a whole bag. This means they don't get grumpy (as they did when I saved up ten bags at a time!) and I feel like I'm being good and paying something in regularly.
Also, I'm so tight I begrudge paying a machine 7% of my well-earned scrimping! :rotfl:0 -
Because it was my savings, I used to 'buy' a pound or so of change from my copper jar if I needed the bus, newspaper, Asda self-service or the coffee machine at work. Then, when the jar was full of £1 and £2 coins, I would 'buy' them off myself with notes etc.
It became a game seeing how much change I could offload by going about my normal business. You don't half get some funny looks though lol!I'll have some cheese please, bob.0 -
I use my change as I go along - thought everybody else did it too
. Busfares, small items in shops, coffees, the 'odds' on the shopping bill if I possibly can.
Recently cashed in around £6.00 in a machine, that was mostly OH's - but I didn't tell him that.

Always go to the bank, you waited in line like everyone else and that 7% going that machines is such a waste to me.0

I just use my change to pay for stuff in shops0
