Apple offer - buy a Mac, get an iPod - other people may qualify...

The latest Apple promo for college students - buy a Mac at a minimum of 6% discount (higher discount for HE students) and get up to £145 rebate if you by an iPod at the same time - actually applies to quite a lot of people. As well as students it also applies to school staff (teaching and non-teaching), pre-school staff and to school governors. That's me then!
If you read the FAQ for the offer it is quite clear that governors are covered - "Elected or appointed officers or executives currently serving a registered educational establishment" - that's exactly what a governor is. Interestingly I phoned the Apple store in Bristol today to check what ID I needed to prove I was a governor and their response was "it doesn't apply to governors". Then (to their credit) when I pointed out the FAQ they said "Oh, thanks for pointing that out" then they went and checked and told me my original appointment letter, or some other form of letter from the school confirming I am a governor would be acceptable.

I'm wondering if it does apply to governors.. it just says Higher Ed, so unless you're a University governor?
As a secondary school teacher, I can't see any link to Sec Ed on there, just Higher
Edit: I'm reading it again, does this loosely constitute: Employees of public or private educational institutions??0 -
Very good, very good. This must convince the missus, surely....!!!

There's a higher education store and an education store - surely a student or employee of a secondary school just uses the education store?0

I have a similar offer:
Instead of buying a Mac, buy a same-spec PC for a lot less.
Then instead of buying an iPod with the money you save, buy a cheaper, non-apple, mp3 player and save even more money.
Yayyyy!0 -
Why dont you compare the cheapest MacBookPro and a Dell and you will get suprising results! I for one will stick to my Mac!

The difference is even greater than I thought it would be! Just shows how expensive it is for a rebadged foxconn laptop.0 -
YAWNS, and what has this got to do with the thread OP?
Stop trolling!
(and if you want to continue, compare a like for like system, like a Levono or Sony, not a cheap Dell with inferior build quality. Ford vs Merc argument again me thinks...)0 -
Totally agree with isofa. If you've got upwards of £900 to spend, looking at a dell as an individual is probably not a smart move. In terms of build quality, only really Lenovo in my, limited, experience can match apple. I've seen a few lenovo's and the build quality is just so good.
In terms of OS, I'm rapidly becoming a bigger and bigger fan of Ubuntu and linux distros in general, although there is a real need for an office suite better than OO. I keep meaning to give abiword a try, but haven't got round to it yet.Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0
