Hi, this is on behalf of my colleague who'll be following the thread. She has parking fines and two CCJ's. No other debts to pay off and would like advice and/or a budget to pay them off asap. Thank you

Assuming the SOA is complete and accurate, then it's quite simple. Your colleague has £659 per month to throw at these debts. She could pay off the two smaller ones in one month, the £490 the month after that, then take two months to pay off the biggest one.
My Debt Free Diary I owe:
    July 16 £19700 Nov 16 £18002
    Aug 16 £19519 Dec 16 £17708
    Sep 16 £18780 Jan 17 £17082
    Oct 16 £17873

If she genuinely has £559 left over at the end of the month she should pay off the two smallest fines the first month, the second largest the second month and then pay the big one off over 3 months. This could all be done in 6 months. Guess she may need to do a spending diary if she doesn't have that money left over.. it probably goes on entertainment, food, presents etc which she hasn't budgeted for.

Good luck to her anyway :D

How has a parking fine got to this amount? Has it gone to bailiffs?

    Hello bhpride and your friend,

Obviously as there is a problem, there is not a lot of money left over at the end of the month. You must start a spending diary TODAY to find out exactly where your money goes. That knowledge will give you power.

However there are two other problems.
First how long will the "parking People" allow the debt to be paid off. Someone may be knocking on your door very soon.

The second problem may be more deep seated. I do not know if there is a medical name for parking where you should not but (trying to be light hearted) you obviously suffer from some sort of problem associated with cars!!!

Examine yourself, is this really your “light bulb moment.” If you find plenty of reasons and excuses not to act immediately then the bulb has not come on properly. If you can not do without parking tickets or the thrill of getting them, then again the bulb has not come on properly.

    Sorry!

Am I allowed to be flippant?

    Sorry again

thank you, she's had a look. The 50 and 150 (got that wrong on SOA sorry) HAVE to be paid every month or she'll definetly be sent to prision (been through court etc) so disposable income is 459

Another way of using a spending diary is to allocate a weekly amount to yourself per week, from your budget after all essentials have been deducted. Using receipts, deduct as you spend through the week. Try to get to the end of the week leaving some over to carry forward to the next week. This has the effect of keeping your overdraft down and avoids overspend.

Get rid of the car it seems to be the cause of all her problems. Also stop buying clothes for a while.

Could you go to the SOA and list parking fine 1, parking fine two ETC and which are £50 and which are £150.

And can you indicate which debts are CCJs or are these in additon to the parking fines?
