LOOK WHAT DROPPED ON THE DOORMAT YESTERDAY!

    YES, NPOWER

    £1144.88 debit

This is the amount you've spent on electricity
    from 26-Jul-2008 to 5-Aug-2009

Totally based on our meter reading

I contacted npower 3 times to get the monthly payments raised, told they would get customer care :p to contact me - never happened - thus £901.51 debit - talk about a fool and his money.

Sorry, another question - does the electricity consumption look a bit on the high side - 3 bed house, cooker, hob, (cook from scratch most nights, no ready meals so probably using quite a lot) freezer and fridge freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, TV (not on that much).

    Any help appreciated!

Hi there, your electric looks really high to me! We're in a similar house with cooker, fridge, freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, electric shower and ours is nothing like that! It might be worth querying. As they haven't bothered to get back to you, have you put a more formal complaint in to try to get things moving? GOOD LUCK!

You do release that this bill is for over a years worth of electric, sounds about right to me!

Same has just happened to us! When I signed up I told Npower how much we consumed with British Gas and I was told my joint gas and electricity bill would be £47 a month. Today I received a bill for £116 a month- double! I cannot believe we are consuming more. Is this a con to attract new customers with cheap energy prices which they then raise several months down the line? We owe them £198 apparently which puts off switching...

hi, yes, ours is much lower than that for a year, although we are out during the day at work on weekdays - maybe that's the difference?
  • We were with NPower 12 months ago and changed to Scottish Power where you can do online meter readings as often as you require - daily if you want to! It shows your daily average and you can even have a graphical view of your gas/electric consumption. We had similar problems with NPower and having DD's hiked to cover over expenditure but have had no such trouble with Scottish Power as we can put in meter readings as frequently as we want. That way, you can keep tabs on how much you owe or are in credit.

Hi and thanks for the replies,

Npower based these figures on a consumption of 26687kWh for gas and 7923kWh for electricity.

I've never REALLY looked at the energy bills in that much detail before, we used to be with EDF energy and only moved because we could't cap with them at the time.

By the way, this is the only bill we have ever received from Npower since we signed up with them last year, I am set up for paperless bills, but every time I logged on to check the message appeared that our "bills were not available for viewing", otherwise, I would have checked my bills more often, I can now view this one and only bill (when the web page doesn't tell me its temporarily unavailable).

I was thinking of moving back to EDF Energy, they have a plan called
Online Dual Fuel V5 from EDF Energy

    Unit prices

Gas 5.830p per kWh 3.210p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.aElectricity 11.22p per kWh 8.05p per kWh above 900 kWh p.a
I just dont want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire, very unsure of which way to go now

    thanks again

I am sorry, but you are wrong about this. I was with NPower, and switched over to EON back in May. I am paying the balance of the NPower bill over 24 months.

their systems can block you for debt.
