which items and starting prices are free to list on ebay?

I just listed a dozen or so CD,s on ebay and the last few were ones I just want rid of,dont care what I get for them so I started them at 99p with free p&p,surprised to see the listing fees were zero for those cd,s.
So I assume that starting bids at 99p for cd,s gets you a free listing.Do you have to offer free P&P for that to happen?
Are there any other catergories where you can list in a certain way to get free listings.
My major expense on ebay is my unsold item fees which always outstrip my sold items,so if I can list stuff which avoids those listing fees I wont lose money anymore when selling my stuff.:o

All sales from private sellers at 99p or below are free.
However, your 99p CDs with free postage are likely to make you an overall loss as many creep over the 100g weight when wrapped..my last went to 107g which was a pain.
You will pay 10p FVFs, around 25 p to paypal 76p to post plus say 12p for an envelope giving you a net loss of 23p.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Private sellers its 99p in all categories ()except cars) free to list. But be careful you will if you sold it for 99p with free p&p you will pay 9p FVF plus 22 pence to paypal (unless you have a micro account). 2nd class mail is actually 76p. So you will just cover the postage with 2p left for the bubble envelope time and petrol!
So even if the listings are free you can still loose money. For CDs the more obscure ones can get good prices on Amazon. The more popular ones that you wont get much for it can be worth selling in lots or even sending to Music Magpie
If your getting lots of unsold items. I would have a good look at your listings.
Are your competitors items selling ? (look in completed listings)
Does your listing stand out in a good way? Do you have good photos and description and no silly Terms and Conditions
Is it worth paying to put it as a Buy it now (which you can list for 30 days)
Is the item worth selling or just taking to a charity shop. Some items just aren't worth selling
You really don't want to be out of pocket. Your overall strategy worries me and overall ebaying could cost you money0 -
Music Magpie is much better for CD's. Most you only get a pound or so but at least there are no other costs to pay. Its more than your get on Ebay.0

Most of my cd,s were only worth 30p(one of them just 20p)on music magpie,I have fab taste in music obviously:rolleyes:.I will try them on ebay first since the listing is free then if they dont sell send them to music magpie.
I didnt think the postage would be so high,I thought a second class stamp would cover it,didnt even weigh a cd to check first, oops!:oWell I will just have to hope they go for more than 99p.
Just weighed some of them in the bubble envelope and most of them are under the 100g so I can send them 2nd class letter for 30p,some with heavier booklets and the double discs are over 100g so I would lose money if they went for 99p.
One of my discs which was worth just over £1 on music magpie has an opening bid of £4.99 already:D."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -
How do you manage to send a CD for 30p? Second class is 47p if under 100g.0

The only time I have been able to send a CD so cheaply is when it didn't have a case. I haven't sent one for a while, but I think it is usually around 70p-ish.0

I looked at the royal mail website,a second class stamp is 30p and the cd in the padded envelope is within the letter post sizes, arghh!for large letter because of the width which is 47p.
So I swap the CD cases of the discs I sell which are 9mm wide for the slimmer ones from cd,s I have at home which are 4mm wide and get the postage for 30p after all:cool:.
Even if you have to buy new slimmer cases so the cd,s come within the smaller letter size they are only 9p each and the postage is 17p cheaper.Worth doing if you sold a lot of cd,s.Use the self seal card envelopes rather than padded envelope so its still within 5mm."Reaching out to touch the stars dont forget the flowers at your feet".0 -

So your going to sell CDs not in original cases I hope thats in your listing otherwise I can see lots of INAD claims coming your way0 -
why i wouldnt be bothered as long as its in a case and not a copy. for 99p im not going to complain, most of my cds go straight on my mp3 then in to a box never to surface again, 99p for a cd all in is a bargain, not even that cheap used on play.com etc0

You may not complain but I bet others would. Especially if its not in the listing0
