Changing o2 pay monthly direct debit details - move to Credit Card payment?

I have to change my direct debit details to my new account, and it wouldn't let me do it online so I had to phone up and they told me to phone back once payment for this cycle had been taken (it's being taken today, but I only have a week window every month, and I go on holiday tomorrow, so have to do it today), then the system would let it be changed.

Basically I have my new account details that I can give them, but I want it to come off the credit card instead, rather than the direct debit straight from my bank. The terms say "We may require you to pay your charges by direct debit. An additional charge may apply if you pay by another method.....". Does anyone know if they would let me pay by credit card, and, if they do, how much the fee would be? (if any)

Also their website has a "make a payment" part, where you can pay "one off" payments by card, but it might not be reflected in the direct debit that's taken. I’m pretty sure the lady also said something about direct debits being generated 7 days before the payment date, so if they won't let me have my account setup to pay by card, could I just leave the details as they are and login and pay it manually by credit card every month, which would mean they don't take a direct debit for the month, if I did it in time (direct debit date is 30th, so if I was to pay manually by credit card on say 20th)?

Thanks if anyone knows :)

Edit: Whoops, forgot to say that I'm on o2 pay monthly, £35 a month, started in May

As JellyMan says you can pay this way, its called a continuous card payment. It is discouraged though because you're not covered by the direct debit guarantee where if something happens and o2 take too much then you can't claim it back.

Thanks, I realise about that (I know a few that had problems with Setanta), but o2 are good and I've never had any problems with them. Their support, if anything did go wrong, seems very good so I think they would sort it. If it came to it and they wouldn’t stop taking payments I’d just “lose” the card and get it blocked….

Just phoned them, they’ve taken the Direct Debit today (as expected), so the lady took my card details and said it was accepted and my next bill would be paid on my card on 30th August. She also said to cancel the direct debit to make sure they didn't charge me again, but to do it in a few days time (to be 100% certain that it then wouldn't cancel the one they took today), so I’ll just do it when I get back. Thanks for your help :). I’ve just realised that as my statement date is 17th, I’d have 6-7 weeks to pay for each bill :D

I was never sure why o2 write in their terms and conditions that they would charge more for non direct debit payments, in all my time working there I never saw one additional charge for not paying DD.
