I'm trying to get by on £20 per week, that includes £10 for petrol.

Do you guys do the same?

yep thats exactly the figure i make my self get by on for every week good on u Zab keep going mate cos trying to do this if possible frees up a lot of money to pay off ur debts
Savings Total so far for 2026: £0/£10,000
  • I haven't been doing this lately, as I , in theory, have a fair bit of ' pocket money' each week, but now that i am trying to clear my overdraft I am going to do this again from next payday, giving myself £20 a week, and trying not to go to the cashpoint again. If I could do this I could get my overdraft down at the rate of £120 a month!

I allow myself £25 per week, most times I am left with money which I put straight into a collecting jar then at end of month gather it up and pay bills with it.
  • I am trying to have a £20 per week shopping budget which is working at the moment, and from this week am going to give myself some "pocket money" not sure how much to give myself though.

Starting this week, I am drawing cash out each week and allowing £30 petrol (used for work mostly), £10 for bread, milk, fruit & veg etc (I have a full freezer and cupboards that I plan to use up before doing another big shop at the end of May), and £10 for spending on whatever I fancy.

I also keep £10 hidden in my desk drawer at work and £10 in the car for emergencies and am (mostly...!) good at only using these for genuine emergencies.

I'm fed up of looking at holidays/nice cars and thinking 'I wish I could afford that...'. If I can get a grip on the amount of money I usually waste each month then I reckon that quite soon I probably will be able to afford nice things!

It might be worth hiding £1.20 somewhere on your person each week just in case you lose your change and miss the bus :-O

Love to know how that is possible hunny. ;) Ooh where did I hide that money oh there it is!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

This is my first month of 'budgeting' and it's harder than I thought it would be.

On pay day I took out £100 that was for me. I also have a £100 petrol budget seperate.

The £100 for me is to cover things like going out, hobbies, toiletries, snacks, birthdays that sort of thing. It's going OK but room for improvement! :D

god i feel guilty reading this: i allow myself £300 a month and most of that has usually gone by beginning of week 3.

looking at this has made me realise how much i can cut back.

OOoo i'm loving all the tips in this post, although i'm not sure i could keep some money hidden. So i do only take out £20 cash and thats it...
I bring my own lunch, drive to work and work in the middle of nowhere, so it should be more than enough if that pesky supermarket will stop calling my name ;)
Now if only the weather will get nicer so i could go for a walk at lunchtime, i'd be a happy girlie :)

I allow £55 per week but that has to buy food too, for 3 of us. Next week DD needs her new term bus pass £50 (a rip off - it used to be free) so I'm being extra careful this week. My beautiful glass fish bowl got broken yesterday so I need to get one urgently that will damage my budget this week too :(
