Do u limit the amount of money you have per week?

I'm trying to get by on £20 per week, that includes £10 for petrol.

Do you guys do the same?

We tend to budget monthly because we both get paid monthly and it is easier.

Our budget at the moment is £40 a month for petrol (we run an LPG car so cheaper) and our budget was £120 a month for food but its currently working out at less than £80

As of thursday ( pay day) I am drawing out exactly the right no of pound coins for the amount of work days. I will set at 1.00 a day ( newspapers, soft drinks, chocolate mm) What I dont spend will be given to my credit cards. I buy my travelcard at the start of the week, take lunches, so I dont really NEED any money to be honest...
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • I allow £10.00 per week to cover things like birthday cards, parking - only really needed if I go into town at weekends and usually avoid this like the plague!, magazines etc, and £10.00 to cover buying bread, milk, fresh veg and cooked meat if needed. Any £2.00 coins are saved to pay for my hair to be coloured/cut, and any leftover monies are rolled over into next week and deducted from next week's allowance.

At the moment I don't and I think thats where I am going wrong.

I take my lunch to work everyday, but always have my debit card in my purse, so if I see something I like ( but probably don't need!) I know I can use my card.

I have just read another thread that talked about leaving cards at home, and from tomorrow when I go back to work I am going to do that.

I need to get a bus home everynight so that £1.20 Mon- Fri , I shall take another £1.00 with my me, just in case...and that will be it.

Sounds like a good plan :) Leave the cards at home and even if temptation does tap you on the shoulder you can tell it to go  itself. :)

It might be worth hiding £1.20 somewhere on your person each week just in case you lose your change and miss the bus :-O

All our regular outgoing are budgeted for monthly, but my OH and have pocket money each week of £10 each.
I think that for me, though I'm going to cut that back. I'm finding that if I have £10 per week then I spend £10 per week. If I only have a couple of pounds in my purse then I'm much more careful...
What are you expecting to use that weekly money for other than petrol? Is it food and other living expenses? Or just 'spare' pocket money?

I am starting from 1st May. I am going to limit myself to £50 per week and that needs to include petrol as well. I think its easily possible for me as long as I don't go being stupid!

No, I have customers, children, the CSA and debts to do it all for me. :D
