Whats the best way to cook a joint of ham, for slicing to have in sandwiches and in salad?
I was thinking of putting it in the slow cooker so we could have it for tea tonight, but its the first time ive cooked one so im not sure whether i need to soak it first or how long for.
Any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks.

There are several threads on gammon joints in the SC that might help you. They're in the link below:-

Hello,
I've not tried this yet but I'm dead curious as to what it would be like and I'm waiting to pluck up the courage, it's just a bit different, so I thought I'd suggest it

I cook gammon joints and even for the unsmoked ones I always soak over night.
And then cook for a few hours on high in the SC.
But you could always boil it a couple of times that will help get all the gunk and salt out and then pop in the slow cooker.

We always roast ours on a really low temperature for a few hours (much the same as a slow cooker I suppose). Comes out as succulent as you like!!! You can get loads of meals / sandwiches from it too.£2 Saver Club (started 24th March '06) going towards No. 2 Son Cub trip!!

Where is the best place to buy a ham/gammon joint, its something I've been wanting to do for a while, just unsure what to look for.

I do the same as fizzel81. I always save the stock and make soup as well with lentils carrots and onions, the kids go mad for it. Just don't add any salt to the stock until the soup is made it's usually salty enough.0

I can recomend the nigella recipe. Do this each xmas as a treat. make sure you use the full sugar cola as it's something to do with the sugar content. Lovely, but not really money saving.0
