  • Last DD transferred over to Yorkshire BS Cash Transactor account (no debit card :)) for next month when salary will go into that account.

Lloyds TSB account is now my Petrol account with two subsidiary savings accounts for Car Maintenance and Car Insurance respectively.

Co-op Cashminder account now purely for personal spending.

  • Well, you have got yourself organised Chrisblue... Well Done!

I like the idea of a savings account with "virtual savings pots" - I think I will look at that too, so thank you

    Hi Chrisblue
I took a bit of an mse break while real life was being changeable but I'm back now. It is really great to know things are going better for you and you seem to be organising a good system for your finances.

Hi Jellie, hope that things are ok with you, in real life and in "MSE-land" too :).

Yes, after many attempts at getting a "workable system"and much tweaking of my spreadsheet every month, I seemed to have settled on a setup where with a bit of monitoring plus heaps of willpower. I seem to be making very small steps in the right direction....

This year, I actually saved up and carefully budgeted for Christmas 2012 and the monthly budget is still on track to my next pay day on 15th Jan :T.
Myself and OH are actually planning for a modest holiday in 2013 - not had one since 2008 :(.

Good Luck for 2013, let me know how things are going with you too.

  • Just had a read of your story. Sounds like you're doing well with your plans. I hope you manage to get a holiday this year.

  • Life has the habit of slapping you in the face with a wet kipper and it was my turn today in the form of a car repair bill.

Unfortunately, the passenger side CV joint recently failed ,together with two CV joint gaiters, and it cost £197.00 to repair :(. I need the car to get to work and for my job so not upset about it.

Thankfully, due to prudent budgeting and a small amount of emergency savings, the bill has been paid and my budget until payday is ok :).

Moral: MSE budgeting works because in the past this bill would've been chucked on a credit card or I'd have been in trouble.

  • Got paid on Tuesday , monthly budget done and so far is on course.

Having a Bills-only account really helps, together with separate Personal Spending and Petrol basic bank accounts.

Staying in today, snow outside looks nice but feels too cold :)

  • All main funds transfers done for this month and budget for this month is looking ok.

I may need to look at budget amount for Gas & Elec , plus need to start committing real amounts to "Piggybanking" account each month.

Monthly budget is now more or less stable
