cat worming

My kit kat is a nightmare to worm, I usually use drontal and frontline on her, but I have heard that a topical worming treatment is available, dispensed similarly like frontline, on the back of the neck. Please could someone tell me the name of it and where and if I can buy it online, in true moneysaving style

  • It's called profender Frankiestar. Not sure where you can get it online I usually get it from my vets.

The other option is either Advocate or Stronghold which mean you only have to worm by tablet once a year.

They are prescription only which does mean a vet visit and you can buy online cheaper than most vets but you do have to factor in the cost of a prescription and the consultation......depends on how bad your cat is to tablet :)

Have you tried crushing the drontal and mixing it with a pate (Morrisons cheapy liver and bacon always works for mine!No garlic in that) and just leaving it in the cats dish?
  • she is a very observant cat, and notices anything different in her dish, she only eats the science diet and whatever she might catch!! so crushing it is not really an option but thank you anyway
  • Our cats refused to eat the worming tablets and spat them out when they thought we weren't looking... After several attempts to give them soggy tablets we gave up.

So we bought some Panacur worming granules to mix in with their food and were convinced they would turn their noses up at it. They ate the lot, no problem. (Admittedly, we did give them a little less food that morning to ensure they were hungry and mixed a few prawns in with it too!)

I trapped a young, wild, worm ridden cat and the vet gave her a vaccination that treated her for worms for 12 months.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

I was able to purchase one of the pill dispensers from the vets, like the ones they use to administer pills, you sort of stick it in their mouths and fire!

My vet just dispenses profender without the need for a consultation (it's prescription only). its about a fiver which is about the same as on the internet. It covers all the worms you need to cover in the uk and considering I was throwing one pill away for every drontal I got down her its well worth the money.

Lily has Stronghold, but the vets also gave her Profender which she is treated with every 3 months as she goes outside. Twice a year would be appropriate for an indoor cat I believe.

Just before you dash to the vets for a prescription, have you tried putting it in pate? My boy cat has always fallen for the drontal-mixed-with-tuna routine and wolfed it down, but my girl cat is MUCH more fussy and seems to notice everything. We tried it mixed with tuna, hidden pill quarters in chicken chunks, hidden pill quarters in cheese... Then my mum suggested pate and she ate the lot in 2 seconds flat. Cut the drontal tablet into quarters and use a spoon to make a quenelle of pate around each part, so that the tablet doesn't have any affect on the outer flavour. Hopefully your cat will wolf it down without even noticing the little tablet in the middle.

Our last resort after this was going to be Profender spot-on, which is much more expensive and requires a vet visit - do give this a try first. Good luck ;)

Always found wrapping the cat in a towel works, not pleasant but if you can get that pill down their throat in first or second go it's worth it, and no claw marks :o
