We didn't bother with stag/hen nights, we just had a combined meal out with other peope the night before the wedding.

I would have been well miffed if he naffed off abroad and I stayed at home just to have a couple of drinks!

Mind you, I don't know of many of my circle of friends who do venture abroad, it's not really the done thing. I have been invited to a friend's stag do next month, but that consists of a tour of the pubs and clubs in town.

I spent £30 on mine. H2B is spending about £200. The way I see it is that he can do whatever he likes. I spent £500 on a dress and his suit was only £150.

What did you do that only cost £30? Wicked.

    Debt-free and Proud!
My fiance also wants to go to Amseterdam however I've decided just to put the money away to have a holiday with the girls, instead of a girls night out in my hometown. I figured that even though its against my MSE mentality, its a once in a lifetime thing and my friends are so enthusiastic about it that I can't let them down, even though I should just keep the money and save for a house, which my finance should do too. I'm also going to use it as my debt free treat to myself :)

I think it comes down to a number of things...

    1. Costs aren't completely equitable, a lot of the brides stuff costs a lot more than the grooms, and in general a lot of the decision making is done by the bride. I've really just been left to sort out the honeymoon, my suits, my groomsmen and my stag do. Therefore if my W2B starting telling me what to do (or not do) for my stag do then I'd probably be a bit annoyed.

    2. Most important is what your friends on your stag/hen do are up for... if you reckon they'd be more into a cheaper night out or something, then fair enough... I'm the first of my mates to be getting married so we're all up for a jolly to eastern europe, however in terms of cost it's probably no more than heading to london for a big night out. If my mates couldn't afford it then i'd do a much cheaper stag do, most important is doing what they want to do really, so that they all come

    3. are you factoring the cost of the stag/hen do's into your wedding budget? We've kept ours separate, and I'm pulling some extra hours at work to save up for it. My W2B is doing the same.

I've tried a bit to encourage my W2B to think of things as 'cost/per minute'... so things like a glass of champagne for everyone might work out the same price as a DJ, but people tend to remember the DJ and enjoy it for longer. So we've sacrificed lots of expensive champagne for sparkling white wine and saved probably the same amount as my flights and hotel for my stag do! In the end it's a once in a lifetime event (both your wedding and stag/hen do)... and on the grand scheme of things spending a couple of hundred quid to jet off somewhere for a session is probably good value compared to a lot of the little and less significant things that tend to be debated to death... table centres are our currently issue!!

I went for an Italian meal and some cocktails in a local town. It was great!

H2B came back from his yesterday having only spent £60. His mates paid for everything bar the hotel room and wouldn't let him open his wallet- how lovely of them!
  • We're going to a few bars in town with a blinged up T-shirt and OH is going to Amsterdam Fri-Mon too. I don't mind as I've spent a fortune on other people's hen weekends.

I just hate the whole thing when your abroad and there's a group of drunk guys on a stag do. Same with hen do's every friday in town, but then I do live in Brighton. I do have a feeling it's probably going to end this way though!

we arrange a hen night for our best mates and the bride spent about 5 pounds the whole night mainly because we went to the pub and did karoke and she could on drink soft drinks as she was pregnant and because of this and the nice lady working behind the bar she got the drinks free all night and then we continued to our local night club which give coke to driver for free aswell but she had a whale of a time and it was such a funny and fun night! the only thing she bought was a kebab on the way home which has to happen every night out anyway!

Am surprised at the number of stags going to amsterdam  I know what can happen, after attending an Army Officers stag do in the Dam, and it wasnt a pretty sight.

For ours the Oh is going out for a meal with friends, and I am not bothering with a stag do at all. I would rather buy myself a new watch instead.
