My CHEAP hen party vs his VERY EXPENSIVE stag do!

Hi all, I am having a relatively low key affair for my hen party, whilst my husband to be is planning an extremely lavish trip to Amsterdam. This frustrates me as I think it's quite unnecessary to spend so much money. I just read this which suggests I'm not the only one in this situation http://money.sky.com/mp/features/news/2009/07/28/Stags-splurge-while-hens-hold-back.html so I was curious as to just how many of you also are watching the pennies, only to have your other-half compensate for this in the other direction?!

I mentioned this to my partner, he seemed to think that the money spent on my dress, shoes, nails, hair and make-up made up for it! On average though the amount it says in that article isn't huge and a weekend in Amsterdam is going to be a lot more. I guess that must mean some people have really frugal Stag and Hen Do's to make the average so low!

Does it really matter who's cost more? As long as you have a great time. I don't know I may be wrong.
  • Yes I am one of those statistics I guess! I had a relatively quiet one, just a few cocktails with my best friends, sisters, mum while h2b went to Brighton for a whole weekend of goodness knows what!

I lived in Brighton so I can understand the ridiculous cost of going somewhere in the UK for a Stag weekend!!

No, probably doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things, but I thought it was quite interesting quite how many couples are follwing the same trend, no?!

I spent £30 on mine. H2B is spending about £200. The way I see it is that he can do whatever he likes. I spent £500 on a dress and his suit was only £150.

My h2b doesn't want a stag do so to compensate we are having a combined "hag party"

I on the other hand will have the Hag, a hen night with my friends, then a low key one at my house will the older lot aunts, mil2b, and sil2b's etc..

haha, I love the sound of a hag party!! Very clever! :)
    I love surprises!
  • Well....my OH went on his stag do last weekend at a cost of £150. He came back with scratches down the sides of his car, mud all over (inside and out) and absolutely worn out!
I'm not bothering having a hen do because 1/ I don't drink and all the women I know do...and 2/ I'd rather use the money on something else for the wedding.
Call me a stick in the mud, but each to their own.
;)I am not a complete idiot - some parts are missing;)

  • Hahah i read that and then emailed it to my Hubby - as that is exactly what we did :D

I went out with my girlfriends to Newcastle (we live Sunderland way), and he went with 3 friends to Amsterdam (though, they took the DFDS ferry so the 2 nights cost circ £120 for all of them!).
