cancel T-mobile for iPhone - charges
Options
I've just signed up to a 12 month Simplicity plan via the cashback deal posted earlier.
Phoned T-mobile cancel my contract early (by over 3 months) and get the PAC and they said they'd have to charge me £83!
I knew I would have to pay out the existing contract, but... my existing contract is only £16 a month due to a promotional offer. They calculated £83 from £25 a month because they said my actual plan is worth £25, and they won't consider the promotional rate of £16 instead.
Is this allowed? Is there any way around paying this much?

PS. I am on Flext 25. Is there actually a lower plan I can downgrade to before I cancel the contract? Can't see anything lower than Flext 40 on the T-mobile website.
Not sure if I can change to Combi 15 instead without being tied in for another 18 months.0 -
That's barmy. The termination fee should be based on what they lose from you. i.e. what you would have paid them had the contract run it's course. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Yes when you cancel a contract, generally any promotions get removed as they are for if you keep your contract the full length. So, you'll get billed the full amount unfortunately.
I think also with tmob you can only downgrade in the last month of the contract but not 100% sure on that.0 -
I read somewhere else as well there that you can only downgrade your contract in the 17th month of an 18 month contract!0

That's a good idea actually. The only problem is that I would still need to carry the old phone around with me in case I get text messages.
When I request my PAC from t-mobile, do they give it to me straight away? Or do they send it in the post?0 -
FYI Diverted calls get charged outside your allowance. Nuts, but true. Also true that they will take your monthly charge without discounts to the end for early terminations, which includes requests for PAC. We ahd the same problem with Mrs Harper's phone and she's having to carry two phones around until the contract is up.The thanks button is here to the right. Hi Fionah, I too am looking at cancelling my mobile phone contract with T-Mobile due to the need to downgrade my costs. I took out a Flext25 too with a £5 discount for going direct. The information I received was as follows:
The lowest flext plan T-Mobile do now is Flext 40 which makes you and I T-Mobile dinosaurs as they're looking to rid themselves of this price plan altogether.
You cannot unfortunately move onto combi or another plan as it's essentially a new contract so you'd end up paying for both.
Interestingly, they now provide unlimited free texts and something like 300 minutes for £15 rolling contract which is in my opinion an excellent deal on their Combi 15, this would mean me losing my £5 discount though as it's a rolling contract which can be cancelled at anytime
Hope this helps you.0 -
T-Mob charges for diverts? Ouch.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I think most networks do now actually - I forget who doesn't. I wanted to use my number but not carry two phones around (personal plus work Blackberry), so a divert during the day was the ideal scenario. Used to work a long time ago, but then they changed their terms for new contracts.
The new Solo deals (esp. with Quidco cashback too) are good value. The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!
