Just dont make me read that dreadful paper. Free DVD OK. Maybe ok for the weather report but otherwise... NO THANKS. In fact, if I get the paper for the free dvd maybe I can sell the actual paper on ebay? BRAND NEW, NEVER READ. No Reserve.

It's worth asking the person in the newsagents if you can have the DVD (and the supplements, if it's inside a plastic bag) without buying the paper. Best to wait till shortly before closing time. It's worked for me, a couple of times. Worst that can happen is they say No, so you buy the paper anyway.

Bizarre thing about the way newsagents work (or used to) is that they get (got) credit for unsold copies of newspapers, without actually having to send them back. I may be remembering it wrong (it was a while ago), but the agent (or was it the wholesaler?) was supposed to destroy the unsolds and send an affidavit (i.e. a legally binding document) to the publisher attesting that they had done so -- EVERY NIGHT!! But it was just the paper that had to be destroyed, not the supplements. So, if they still work like that, the agent doesn't really care about the supplements. If he thinks you'll buy the paper he won't give you the supplement, but if it's just before closing and you don't do it every week there's a chance that he'll say "Take it".
