I rang to ask about a free delivery code and was advised to apply for and shop with an Asda Credit Card as then I would get free delivery each time. I said I didn't want to do this and was then told they send out free delivery vouchers randomly via email.

Ah well, I shall wait and see if I am randomly selected then.

I had an issue with the 'reserved amount' that happens when you place your order. It left me with no money available in my bank, caused a lot of hassle basically.

I phoned the helpline, told them and they just said I had to wait until it was released again. I said I wasn't happy and they told me to email.

Took me a while to find an email address, but sent them a complaint.

And what did they say? They didnt offer an explanation as to what happens with the money (so that I could avoid it happening again), there was no apology and they just told me to phone the helpline again.

    Pointless.

So, should I call back and say that the issue was not resolved?
Are they likely to offer me a voucher or money off?

It's a shame cos I liked ASDA before this happened.

    Hi Foxglove

The honest answer to this question is as follows:-

When you place your order, ASDA do not take the money off the card there and then. The night before your delivery is due, ASDA send off the details to your bank/credit card provider, and request that the money is taken from your account and placed on "hold", to ensure that you are not able to spend the money and ASDA don't get paid.

Sometimes, the amount "held", differs to your actual shopping bill, as prices change etc. After the shopping has been delivered, ASDA then approach your bank for the correct amount, and the bank pay it out, and should return the holding amount to your account. Simple system so far.

Sometimes, the bank does not return the holding amount to your account, as the holding amount is not the same as the amount ASDA are requesting for the ACTUAL value of the shopping, so the bank may think there is another payment that is going to be due to ASDA.

The bank will hold this amount for 7-10 days or so, UNLESS ASDA tell the bank to return the amount being "held" back into your account.

ASDA DO NOT DO THIS! The bank technically are holding your money, but if the bank chooses not to pay ASDA out of that holding amount, ASDA need to tell your bank to release it back into your account.

This can be a simple fax from ASDA to your bank to state that they received payment, and that the holding amount must be released.

AGAIN, ASDA DO NOT DO THIS!! You should phone the contact centre, and advise that you have the above information, and that they either need to tell your bank to release it, or you want compensation. This is NOT your bank's fault. This is ASDA not telling your bank to release the holding funds into your account.

You cannot blame the bank as the day before, when ASDA request the bank to hold funds to pay for the shopping, ASDA tell them the amount they want held (the estimated price of your shopping). If ASDA then go back to your bank the next day and request a different amount to be paid to them, how are your bank supposed to know its for the same order?!?

    Hope this helps

    Regards

You must spend £99 or more with the ASDA Credit Card to qualify. You must also select ASDA Credit Card in the payment option, and not Mastercard :)

In regards to the Christmas Saver Card, I believe that is in store only.

    Hope this helps

Yeah, I knew ASDA could get the money released.

I used to work for a bank - the one I have my account with - so I know how it works. As far as the person on the phone was concerned, it could not be done and I just had to wait for it to be released.

I'm just really disappointed in ASDA because of this. I'm on a pretty tight budget and cant afford to be waiting days to allow me access to money in my bank account.

This all happened a few weeks ago and since then I haven't contacted or used ASDA for my shopping. Is there any point complaining again?

    Hi,

Thanks for starting this useful thread :)

I've had two delivery's so far and have had mixed results. However I don't have an Asda within easy driving distance and so would like to continue shopping with them.

Both times I have shopped I have ordered a particular brand and flavour of juice which has been priced at 75p per bottle (full price). I went to place my order today and it appears to be unavailable. When I went back to my previous order (luckily I saved it) I clicked on the item and it came up without a photo or info and now priced at £1.00 per bottle! I called my friend and on her Asda shop she confirmed it was still priced at 75p in her store.

Can anyone shed any light? Does this often happen with Asda Online??

Was suppose to have my first delivery today, 1-3pm, nothing by 3:15 so we phoned and they said they'd check for us, an hour later no reply so we phoned again...same response. 6pm we phoned for a third time, again, this time they said it was on it's way and an E-Voucher will be offered.

an hour later still no delivery, we tried to phone up the store it was coming from but there was no answer, so we had to go out and spend money on a meal (well we could have got shopping) to actually eat since we have no food, I have no idea what am going to do tommorow about food now.

They said the food was on it's was since 4...well it's taken them 5 hours to travel about 2 miles, worst of all they haven't even phoned to say there was a problem and the call center people were supposed to ring us back once they had asked the store what the delay was.

I can't order food from elsewhere until this is sorted either...another day starving tommorow.

    Hi CharlieZoo

The way the website works is that when you register, it attaches your account to a certain store. Now not all ASDA's do Home Shopping, so your nearest ASDA store may not be the ASDA that delivers to you.

Anyways, in regards to the pricing, once you have found out which store does deliver to you, give them a call to see if the product is at 75p. If it is, and you are charged £1.00 when you receive your order, you have every right to complain. Bear in mind you are supposed to be charged the IN STORE price ON THE DAY OF DELIVERY. So if something today is 75p, and your delivery is due tomorrow, and in the meantime the price goes up to £1.00, you will be charged £1.00.

    Hope this helps
