Car hire in us under 21

Hi guys im new to the site:rolleyes:

My boyfriend and i want to travel america next june and are looking to drive around, However he will be 20 and i will only be 19

Does anyone know of any car hire companys that rents cars to anyone under the age of 21?

    Remember too that 21 is the drinking age in the USA. Don't know if the pair of you like a tipple but you won't be able to over there.

    also another option we were looking as was perhaps buying a car traverling around for a bit then selling it after, has anyone tried this before?

    Whilst it's not impossible, registering and insuring it without a US address is problematical. And selling in a hurry is not easy either. Assuming it lasts the trip - cheap cars are liable to fall apart.
