dvd drive help

Long one sorry, on my pc I only have a cdrw, on my laptop i have a dvdrw, I will prob give my laptop to my sister as hers has broken, prob comes when one of my pc games will only work in a dvd compatible drive, now to the questions...

Someone posted a site to buy a internal dvd drive online very cheap about £17inc vat, has anyone got that site or somewhere simmaler? (i saved it on my favourites but these have all been deleted, i have tryed to search this forum but was unable to find it)

another tiny question, what does (4x) and (16x) mean is that the speed they run at? if so should i get a (16x) one? :rolleyes:

Yes that what speed they can write upto, but the discs have to be able to write at that speed as well, if you put in a 8x disc, even though you have a 16x dvd drive it will only write at the speed of the disc, thats the way I understand it anyway.

thanks wonderfullife, so in that case should i go for the 16x or 8x, i will not be wmaking dvds anyway its just to play them

Again its the same one, will read at 8x plus 40 for a cd and one will read at 16x, plus 48 for a cd, so just the difference in speed.
So I guess thats up to you, if you want fast speed go for the better one.

I've just noticed that my link I posted was only for dvd writers and not players, sorry about that.

also how do i hook it up in my pc, do i need any leads etc etc, will instructions come with the item?

thats fine for you

you just need to unplug the old drive and plug the leads off the old one into the new one

when you restart the Pc it should just recognise the new drive

That ones dearer than a dvd writer.....
If you have 1 hard drive, and 1 cdr already installed, then you will need an ide cable, one end plugs into your motherboard the other plugs into your new drive, plus a spare power cable, which is already in your pc.
