Cooking a pork joint

Hows this for cheap meat, we were given a massive pork joint today by my husbands friend who delivers meat to restaurants and hotels. He is single and wont use it, and wondered if I would use it! Like, duh.
I'm not used to cooking joints as I always find them expensive, especially when you have young children that dont like to chew meat! But being on an economy drive I'm not saying no to anything so any tips on cooking pork welcome. Everytime I do it in the oven it seems to be tough, apart from in a casserole.

How would you do it in the slow cooker then? Do you wrap it in foil or just put it in on its own. Do you add water or anything else?“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

To roast a joint of pork I usually do it in the lower part of the oven (not right at the bottom) on gas mark 4 for about 30mins per pound and then around 30mins to 1hour extra as I'm abit funny about making sure pork is cooked right through.
Don't know the elec cooker thingy's as I'm only used to gas :-/.
Hope this help's
When I use a slow cooker I wrap it in tin foil and stand it on a saucer and cover the saucer with water and just leave it from early morning till tea time and it just fall's off then, lovely.
Hope this help's too.0 -
