If they call again tell them you have recorded all calls and are going to contact the police for harrassment

Offer them the reasonable costs of cancellation, in writing, and 'without prejudice'. The reasonable costs of cancellation will be trivial given the dates, so be prepared to pay say £250. Keep a copy of the letter, because if they do go to court for more than reasonable costs of cancellation after 12 or 36 hours, they be in a weak position.

Don't offer them anything at all. OP does not owe anything.

Shame on Weatherseal - certainly wouldn't ever use them after reading this,.

Just got back from Trading Standards. Amazingly the person who was taking legal action cannot be reached!!! I have been assured that my contract is indeed cancelled and I just need to ring for my deposit. I am still on hold after 30 minutes but hey it's a step in the right direction.
Thankyou so much to everyone who has replied and responded to my plea it was much appreciated and to anyone else who goes through this situation, contact trading standards immediately. They were brilliant.
PS unless you are 100% sure that you want a really expensive conservatory steer clear from Weatherseal. I have learned a very hard lesson in never sign anything ever!!

    :T Yay! That's great news!

Those regulations have been in force for over a year now. You would have thought that companies that often sign contracts in the home would be up to speed with their newer obligations by now.

Good luck with the last hurdle of the refund.

Agreed. Goes to show that without the risk of criminal sanctions to back these sort of things up, "consumer rights" are pretty difficult to enforce.

Ohhh, Weatherseal! I'm quite sure these were the guys who kept phoning me a few years ago and wanting to come round and quote for a conservatory, and wouldn't take no for an answer.

I'm guessing they got some sort of bonus just for getting someone to agree to a visit, as they didn't seem interested that firstly I was renting the property, and secondly it was a second floor flat!!

Staying until 11pm is a blatant sign of harrassment tactics to get you to sign up and pay a deposit.

Keep us posted and let us know when you get your money back!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Cannot get through to the company by phone to ask for my refund. Will probably have to write to them. I have today recieved a finance agrrement that was apparantly the only thing that I could cancel initially with Weatherseal It states that I will have to pay back £41,000 on completion of my conservatory. I wasn't aware that I had even signed for this on the evening. The sly old fox folded up the paper for me to sign and filled out the rest when he left as he never left the carbon copy with me. I have phoned the finance company today to cancel and have to follow it up in writing. I dread to think how this would effect someone older or with problems. It made me so ill. How can these people sleep at night?

Well done - these kind of companies sicken me. I would deal with them in writing if I were you, though Trading Standards may well take it up for you if you don't get a swift response.

The advice on here is correct though - even when you have 'invited' a salesman into your home (ie they have 'phoned you and made a home appointment, or you answered an advert) you are still covered by the cooling off period laws now. Unfortunately, this change is not widely known about and many companies are still misleading customers by saying they cannot cancel.

Shame on Weatherseal for harrassing people in this way.

Bingo Bango is absolutely correct. The Unfair Trading Regulations came into effect earlier this year, and fit your case perfectly.

It is so new that a lot of businesses do not fully adhere to it. But it was designed to cover pressure selling and unfair practices such as you describe. Contact Trading Standards.

Laughing here at the idea of them taking you to court, only because they will fail. You will win and they will be fined heftily.
