Noisy neighbour solution needed

I've been having the same kind of dilemma, having moved in last Monday (yay!) after 7 years of living next to a (silent!) deaf man, we can now hear occasional laughing and chatting from next door. I've been investigating soundproofing. You can get some rubber matting you stick onto the wall and add 2 sheets of plasterboard over the top, but have worked out this will cost over £3000 as the sheets are £27 for a 1m square! The other thing I'm looking into is cavity wall insulation in the party wall, but with quite heavy insulating material. I'll be phoning around later this week to see if it's possible and to get prices, so i'll keep you posted!0

OP, can't you tell your neighbour that you have just set up as a Feng Shui expert and you need to practice the fine art, offer your services free of charge, move the T.V away from the party wall allowing the energy to flow better around the house.0

A-MS - I think it unlikely that the party wall is a cavity wall. Thermal insulation won't do much for the sound insulation. If it is a problem then you are looking at losing a significant depth off the wall to achieve the result.
Like the Feng Shui idea. Maybe they could block the bad energy emanating from the TV by surrounding it with thick cork?
A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
It's a recession when your neighbour loses his job; it's a depression when you lose yours.0 -
I have had trouble with noisy neighbours in the past. However if I were you I would just ask her nicely again if she could turn the television down. However if it is not on at unusual times of the day/night and is not affecting sleep/relaxing times...I would probably just put up with it if this does not work! Insulation is not guaranteed to work. Just be glad that it is just a TV and not blaring music at night and screaming kids! I know any noise can be irritating however after time you do adjust. I would love to afford a detached one day as there always seems to be a noise issue wherever you live!0

Thanks for all your replies. Like I said, she is a really nice lady and has turned it down, but not enough! I'm sure if I asked she would turn it down more but don't want to upset her. We've only been here a month and she bought our son an Easter egg "bless" Anyway I will look into some of your less extreme suggestions, dont think I will resort to nicking her tv though! (probably not flat screen)LOL Cheers again.0
