I bought a Family Railcard when my daughter was born. It did mean I had to buy her a ticket too but the savings made it worth it. The ticket collector did question it once or twice but I was traveling with a child so was sticking to the rules. We went to Cornwall by train and saved a fortune!0

One step forward, when are you travelling? As it's direct I assume it will go via Newcastle, I am trying to get tickets from Newcastle on Tyne to Peterborough( then local train to Huntingdon) and cheapest I can get is £36.00 and I have been trying for days now?0

You might find that separate tickets Swindon - Didcot and Didcot - London are cheaper. (Depending on what sort of tickets, the train might have to call at Didcot for this to be valid.)
And check if including zone 1 on your rail ticket works out any cheaper than using Oyster.0 -
Does anyone know how to advance book train tickets? I remember a couple of years ago, you could do it on the national rail enquiries site, but I can't find it now. I have to pay for 3 adults to travel from Reading to Paddington to Green Park Tube on a Sunday....They are not travelling for a few weeks.
Just looking for the cheapest option...
Any ideas?0 -

Travelling from Reading to London there is no point - there are no cheap advance purchase fares so you might as well purchase them on the day and avoid cancellation fees if your plans change.
The national rail enquiries site will give you fares and links to the sites (TOCs, the trainline) that actually sell the tickets.0 -

Consider the coach from Calcot to Victoria. You can get a bus from Victoria coach station to Green Park in a few minutes.0
