Please can someone help me find a cheaper ticket... I am going from Retford (Could be Lincoln or Doncaster if Cheaper) to Dumfries on 17/10 any time after 12 and returning 18/10 after 5pm.
Cheapest I can get is £99.90 splitting at newcastle with virgin value tickets + Super Saver to Dumfries. ( 3 Adults and 1 Child with Family Railcard)
Thanks

I've found Doncaster to Carlisle for £91.75 return (this fare can be purchased on the day) but is routed via the Settle & Carlisle line so has a reasonably long journey time. I think that £99 is probably the best luck you are going to have on that one.

Hi all, can anyone help?
I want to take a train from East Croydon on the 5th -->7th October to Newcastle.
Any ideas the best prices I can get? Just 1 adult, travelling after 10am both ways."I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -
Thanks all of you for your help. Taffy0

Best price I can see is 2 x singles for the Kings X- Newcastle bit at £26:45 each way, then an open single from EC-KX at £3:80, maybe an oyster single for this bit, so around £60.0 -
Having rarely used trains before in our household my son (uni student) will be needing a journey from Liverpool to Gloucester return for the odd weekends he choses to honour us with his presence.
He doesn't have a rail/coach card but that's not to say he won't get one given the savings it may offer.
Can anyone direct me to the cheapest means of travel ( but not taking 7 hrs to complete )
Thanks in advance.0 -
The cheapest way to do this journey would be to purchase Virgin Value (soon to be Arriva Advance I'm told) singles between Liverpool and Gloucester allowing travel via the direct Cross-country route. That's more than likely the quickest route - the only other route would be Liverpool to London and thence onto Gloucester on First Great Western utilising their Firstminutefare scheme.
At the current fare rates - the cheapest single between Liverpool and Gloucester is £10, then £15 then £19.50 in each direction. You would get some savings by having a young persons railcard on that fare though (34% rounded up to nearest 5p).0 -

Thanks for that!! Not as bad as I thought, really."I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0 -

Forgot to say to get those prices you will have to book in advance, like as soon as possible, you will also be restricted to travelling on the train you book. If you leave it until the day of travel the fare rises to £98 return from EC but is a fexible fare which allows you to catch any train to or from Newcastle.
Just checked the GNER site and the only £26:45 fares left for the 5th are on the 08:30 and 09:00 from Kings X so dont leave it too long.0
