Ps - there's 4 of us.
Split the trip into tickets to and from York each way, and if you're willing to hang around there a few minutes, then advance tickets can get you down to under £50 a head for the whole round trip. With advance tickets travel has to be on the stated train, so err in favour of giving yourself time to spare.
Examples
Saturday
0828 Wolverhampton 1126 York £16
1148 York 1245 Newcastle £12 or
1157 York 1303 Newcastle £7
After that all the WVH - YRK are £16
YRK - NCL vary £9 to £18, mostly £12 or £15
and similar on the way home
Sunday
1612 Newcastle 1716 York £7
1740 York 2036 Wolverhampton £16
1752 Newcastle 1903 York £11
1924 York 221 Wolverhampton £160 -
Would it be possible for someone to help me find a decent price for tickets for 3 adults travelling from Glasgow to London on Saturday 1st Dec (as early as possible) and returning on Monday 3rd December (leaving in the afternoon if possible). Thanks. It's coming out quite expensive on Trainline.0

I just had a look on Virgin fare finder (Never use the trainline) and I got it to around £303 return travelling at stupid time in the morning. You're kind of going at a prime time of the year though and maybe if you done some splits you could get it down but I dont have the time to look at that much detail for you - though I know some poster who can will be around soon."If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

I went on Skyscanner and there are flights around £65 return/adult.0 -

Going Via the East Coast, got the fare down to £150* return (£75 Advance singles) for 3 adults, out at 07:15 1/12 return 16:00 3/12. To get this fare use the East Coast website, enter your journey details and click 'more options' then select 'via Edinburgh' As it's Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh to London Kings Cross it takes a little bit longer.
*include East Coast 10% online discount.Whoa! This image violates our terms of use and has been removed from view0 -
Thanks very much for all the replies. Will check them all out.:money:0

That Glasgow London trip can be got down to £26.50 southbound and £37 back per head, by leaving a bit later Sat and splitting both directions at Preston
National Rail website, Virgin Trains0 -
If you decide to take up that offer explained by Livingthedream, note that you must book for all three adults together via East Coast Trains website to take advantage of their Big savings for small groups offer.
But that's a bargain at £50 return per person.
And no fees if you collect tickets from a ticket machine... unlike the trainline.0 -
I wonder if anyone could give me some advice please. I am going on a day/night trip to London - arriving at Gatwick airport and taking a First Capital Connect train to London Bridge, then taking the tube to the 02 arena. Then, after the concert, taking the same journey back to Gatwick airport. I am trying to work out the cheapest way of doing this. All the train & tube travel will be done in 1 day, and I was thinking of getting an off peak day travelcard (for FCC trains & tube). Not knowing London, would the tube be within the allowed zones for this ticket?
Also, do you have to state an outward time to buy the ticket, or is this flexible, like the return journey?
Thanks for any advice!0
